What temperature is your cpu running at on average? Have a 5800x?

Mine would reach 87-90 deg celcius when running cinebench r20. I have a 360 mil strix aio. I was thinking about RMAing it but it doesn't get really hot when I game.

I get slightly lower temperature than you with a Artic 360 AIO with silent curve in bios. cinebench 85-90C, CPU-Z 77C, same for 3D mark, gaming is very game dependent...average is 60-70C. But BF5 multiplayer can go up to 80C but BF4 stays below 70C. PBO is on auto.

I got one with a Dark Rock 4 cpu cooler. Cinebench R23 multi core it hits 90 degree C with an all core boost of 4.5 GHz and a benchmark score usually between 14500 to 15500. Idle temperatures are pretty bad here too. When starting the PC it's like 45-55 but as soon as I start doing stuff it easily hits 60-70 idle temperature (with like 200-500 fan rpm though). In game, for example in Overwatch (@ ULTRA graphics and WQHD and 300-400 fps), the CPU is between 30-40% utilization because of the high frame rates. That puts my cpu instantly between 85 and 90 degree C. And my Asus 3080 Ti Tuf isn't helping either when gaming. It reaches 80 deg C (it's on silent profile with only 2000 rpm) and certainly doesn't help with cooling the CPU. I should also mention that I have it in a silent PC case (Fractal Define 7 Compact), so Airflow isn't the best. I even considered going back to an Intel i7 but I heard these CPUs aren't running cool either so yeah I am stuck with this hothead 5800X. And from what I heard a 360mm AIO won't fix my temps, because the problem of this R7 CPU is the heat transfer from the 7nm chip to the CPU die and not from the CPU die to the CPU cooler. The only way to really get better temps is to undervolt (but I don't have time to do that) or to limit PPT, TDC and EDC values, but that one means limiting performance. Or you could be my best friend who was an airflow case with 3 fans in front, a 360mm AIO at the top and who plays APEX with low graphics and WQHD capped at 165 fps. Then you get 50-60 cpu temps cause you are not pushing it at all lol :)

My sons ryzen5 3600 runs hot too, it’s a trip. Was thinking it might be the cooler, but I’ve read these chips run hot sooooo 🤷🏼‍♂️. Running a nzxt x53 on it now, gonna bump up to a x63. It is in a nzxt 510 case so the airflow in the case sucks, but the case is next.

I have no idea what is wrong with my cooler. I have a weak 5500 and consistently reaches 88c° during games. I've reinstalled the cooler multiples time, making sure that everything is installed correctly but is just worst than a stock AMD cooler.

Im planning on ordering a computer from ibuypower soon. I cant decide between the 5600x with that same be quiet cooler you show or the 5800x. They wont let me use that cooler for 5800x though. they say i need a 240 ml liquid cooler.

Yeah - they may likely push you into the 240mm AIO, which is fine for the 5800x - can never have enough cooling! For the 5600x, it has a lower TDP it is easier to cooler in general.

If using PBO Just offset undervolt or use the curve optimizer it’s that easy My 5900x easily stays under 60C at stock CBR20 high 70s PBO on and -.120V offset undervolt 4.45ghz all core

"I want to be clear with everyone that AMD views temps up to 90C (5800X/5900X/5950X) and 95C (5600X) as *typical and by design* for full load conditions. Having a higher maximum temperature supported by the silicon and firmware allows the CPU to pursue higher and longer boost performance before the algorithm pulls back for thermal reasons. Is it the same as Zen 2 or our competitor? No. But that doesn't mean something is 'wrong.' These parts are running exactly as-designed, producing the performance results we intend." -Robert Hallock

seeing your cpu sitting at 60c with a 360mm aio when you first booted into bios does make you wonder what you did wrong, especially when intel's cpus don't reach 30c in bios and you happen to be switching.
@ClassicalTechnology
@ClassicalTechnology 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly, that is why I wanted to test this just like a first time user would - without having to do a custom setting in the bios.

The name of the video was don’t buy the 5800x and this is why extremely hot. This left a bad taste for your channel for me. Meanwhile you mention ampere gpu’s running hot vram but single out don’t buy amd cpu. Like intel Is known for cool temp CPU’s and don’t worry bout hot running ampere cards.
@ClassicalTechnology
@ClassicalTechnology 3 жыл бұрын
Stephen, I understand your viewpoint. It’s a good cpu, but a lot of average users got surprised by how hot it ran, even under amd 90c spec. Now more people know what to expect. Amd is the leader now in CPUs, so they’ll be ok. I hope you liked this video! 😀

@@ClassicalTechnology in your original video and in this video, you left out many glaringly obvious things that a tester should/would have tried for lowering the temp though. Changing PBO from auto to a manual 105 for example. Even if you're talking "out of the box" review, you should have still at least given a few recommendations for a possible solution. Otherwise, it kinda comes off like you're just bashing the product. Pointing out problems without offering any solutions is just griping. Spending money on a new cpu cooler isn't the solution to this "problem". I feel like your intellect would have brought you to some of the free solutions of tweaks in bios settings or PBO or voltages to pass on to your audience, but you didn't and that seems misleading.
@ClassicalTechnology
@ClassicalTechnology 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, I did mention PBO and how that can increase the temperature. The scope of this was just to see how it performs for a typical user out of the box, not necessarily find settings to manually lower the temperature. I also wanted to see how the cooler would handle this CPU with stock settings. I may do something like you mentioned with more detail on how to actually lower the temperature by adjusting settings, there are certainly different ways to do it but Require its own video to really explain it.

Maybe if you weren't such the AMD Fanboy, you wouldn't be offended at all. Why would he even bring up Ampere's hot a$$ gpu's in a discussion about a newly released hot a$$ running 5800x unless you're pairing them together to see if they equal having a hot hair dryer blowing out the back of your pc, which is exactly what I want of course! ... Subscribe to "NAAF". It's waay AMD Fanboy friendly! .. He talks smack about Nvidia & Intel 24/7 .. Trust me. You'll like it there! 👍

@ClassicalTechnology 3 жыл бұрын
But I did mention several times How I think it’s a good cpu, and amd says it is normal under 90c, so it’s within spec. Having said that, it still runs hotter on average than most people are used to, spec or not, so it’s not exactly ideal. I may make a video on some simple solutions that may help with this issue on bios like I said as well

I believe you should have tried cpu bounded games, truly. This is just another video to get views+++. Why not try Valorant, Cs:Go, Dota, Lol, or something else which really requires a cpu and puts it at max performance. There was a gentleman below, claimed his hothead 5800x gets 85-90celsius in Overwatch. That is a LOT!
