I don’t blame them. I’m raised in Europe and football is everything for me, I knew what players played were but when I moved to the US I lost much of my knowledge about players and so on. The reasons are I think: the time difference. The lack of interest over all in the country. The isolation from the world. No one is talking about it. No tabloids anywhere meaning you have to search for the information you want to read about!

Goodness me, if you need to know... An off-side is when a player is beyond the last line of the opposing teams defence. The off-side is only called during a run of play, so when a pass is made by a team from behind the opposing teams defence towards their most advanced player on the pitch and he interacts with the play it is called off-side.

If the attacking player is goal side of the last defender, with any playable part of his/her body (part of his/her body they can legally touch/play the ball with)...at the very moment the ball is played/passed forward (paralell/backwards is fine and doesnt count) to them by their own player......they are offside. They must remain ball side of the last defender, until the pass has been made. If a defender is goal line side of the goalkeeper...they are considered the goal keeper (only from an offside point of view....and the goal keeper essentially considered the last man/defender). Football rules....gotta love em.

Not entirely true. Offside starts with the last line of defense whose closest to the goalkeeper. If the attacker receives the ball or starts before the ball is passed to them after they cross the last defender before the keeper, they are then deemed offside.
