Thanks for this video, I was struggling to get muriatic acid in the UK to do this test. Every fish keeper has a test kit like this so we all have it to hand!

Those are seiryu stone/rock with the white across. Been using those for decades with no problem. Been on all types of tanks including planted tanks with community fishes!!

Actually, its limestone I got from a garden center. It's from a local gravel pit here in Western New York, looks identical.. Its used as riprap on shorelines to prevent erosion, topdressings on driveways, landscaping and much more here. Looks just like Seiry stone. I got 120 Lbs for $40.

Unless you are referring to what I was calling mountain stone. Thats was Seiyu stone. It's also referred to as mountain stone here and is how it labeled at Petco. The white in it is calcium and will raise your Ph and help stabilizes you water parameters. Grate for live bearers, shrimp, plants. Just not for very soft water tank mates.

I did this test with level sand gravel that i bought in HOME DEPOT.. it had a slight fizzing effect.. very slight.. you really had to look close.. would this still be ok in my aquarium.. would it be able to rinse away any problems ? what would it do to the fish ? is it a death sentence or would it rinse to be safe ?

If you hadn't put it in the tank yet I would put an inch or two in a bowl and fill the rest with water and wait a day or two and test the pH. Then you will know what kind of fish and plants will be suitable. Even with a small reaction the pH will most likely raise to about 8.2-8.4. If that is too high for what you want, try pool filter sand or blasting sand. Both are cheap alterities compared to aquarium sands, but only use pool filter and made from silica or quartz (quartz is made from silica) Blasting sand is sold at Tractor Supply Co. Both cost under $15. for 50 Lbs.

As far as whether or not it's safe for fish it depends on the type of fish and the pH level, they can survive in.
