Testing Basics videos are the best! So helpful for me (and lots of us) who can’t afford to buy lots for comparison. I always wanted a UNIQLO cashmere crew neck since I watched your last cashmere testing basics video. And finally bought one in black while they had a massive sale in Japan - it was only for £40! I’m so happy with the product :)

Marks and Spencer’s are brilliant for cashmere! I’m so glad you agreed,great price especially if you buy when they have 20% off days and I love the fact that they can be washed at 30 degrees. Xx

I think what totally justifies the higher price point in a cashmere jumper is the thickness of the material and the length. Cause especially the Ray jumper is thick without being as see-through as the Pure one, as well as the length means they used a lot more cashmere. And cashmere is a rare and also to a point problematic material, which makes it really expensive. And I think this makes sense and may even show that it’s real cashmere that’s not as bad for our planet. I suggest everyone having a read on that!

I don’t think your comment about the neckline of the everlane sweater being slightly wider/looser was too “picky” at all. I noticed that right away during the intro try-on. In fact, I would love even more comparisons from you about the cut and fit. It also seemed that the M&S jumper was cut more streamlined vs everlane a bit boxier? Fit problems I always have are sweaters being too short in the arm and too narrow in the shoulder (I am tall and lanky but have broad shoulders). So I found myself pausing the video and trying to zoom in and see exactly how the sweaters fit for you. I’d love more info on that kind of thing in future basics vids
@meriumi6 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree - fit is important and rather essential too. Like you, I also have broad shoulders. I can tell from my personal experience that Uniqlo's sizing is rather petite, and I think one can also see that from the placement of Lizzy's sweater's shoulder seams. I sized up all the way to L on my v-neck cashmere sweater in order to get a good fit (hits the shoulders perfectly and is pleasantly oversized elsewhere).

I would love love love to see a non-leather tasting basics series! I think this would be a really great way for you to appeal to new people as well and I'm sure some of your other subscribers don't buy leather as well! A great one to start with would be ankle boots but any type of bag would be great too x

Hi Lizzy! Love your video as usual. I'm glad you are incorporating more sustainable brands, but I'd love to hear more about the ethics of all the brands! I'm like you, where I'm transitioning to more sustainable shopping. I feel there must be a spectrum of ethical behaviour, which we don't discuss. We can be a bit binary. Something is either deemed to be "good" or "bad". Where as I'm sure the truth is far more grey.

Emma Hill mentioned in her everlane review video that Marks and Spencer has quite a transparent supply chain with their cashmere but if you try to look further at everlane apparently it's not quite so easy? I haven't researched myself as we're in summer here so I definitely don't need cashmere, just passing on what she said. Personally I think everlane might be just a tiny bit token with their sustainability... People seem to love the brand without question 🤔 Having said THAT I thoroughly enjoyed this testing basics as always 😁😁👍
@SElyas966 жыл бұрын
paula mcclelland Everlane clearly mentions in the description of each item where and what factory the item is made at, they also have something called transparency pricing where they tell you exactly how much they spent on material, hardware, delivery, duties, transport and labour, and how much it’s been marked up

If you're on the lookout for cashmere jumpers and are on the budget I would suggest trying TK Maxx- I got one last year for 20 pounds, and I also saw a big selection of merino wool jumpers in TK Maxx in UK in mens section (mens S fits me ok and I'm a Small anyway). And I bought both, suprisingly the mens one I wear more because it feels softer, but still. And of course second hand shops if you've got any good ones- you'll probably get one wool one for 100 acrylic ones but it's still worth it if you then pay 5pounds for it I guess? These are probably really obvious tips but maybe they will help someone who is broke like me but still wants some good quality warm jumpers for the cold weather. Cheerz

I will be making a trip to the UK in December so I will check out the various sweaters within the M&S line. Lizzy I’m really excited by the introduction of your thoughts and fact around sustainable fashion. I’m wondering if you have thought of adding some more information to your testing basics that include some transparency about brands ethical practices, where and how they source there materials, there factories fair work and fair trade policies. I know there are risks in brands not wanting this information shared or brought to the attention of consumers however I feel that all brands have the capacity to be more sustainable in most of there practices. Information is power and giving people information to make informed choices is an amazing opportunity for influencers in the fashion industry. Just a thought I had while watching your video. Thanks Lizzy

I have the black, ash grey, and camel colors. I've washed them inside-out on the delicate cycle zipped inside mesh laundry bags with woolite, cold water, low spin cycle...Then laid flat to dry on laundry rack. They turned out perfect. * note that they also have an EVERYDAY 'long' sleeve crewneck cashmere sweater which seems to now be replacing this 3/4 sleeve one.

I really like your stance on sustainability because I'm all or going that option if it's also the best option, but I often wonder, is it better if I buy one less sustainably made jumper than I love and wear/keep for ten years, or a more sustainably made jumper that performs less well and I end up using less and ultimately maybe getting rid of sooner.. Similarly, ordering things from overseas increases your the carbon coming from shipping, which also is something to consider. Yes support green/ethical brands, but that it's never that simple, is it?
@meriumi6 жыл бұрын
Those are very difficult questions to tackle. I've been actively making efforts to make my wardrobe (and other parts of my space/life) more sustainable over the past year or so, and from my understanding the most sustainable choice by far is consuming less. Each new garment, regardless of how sustainable it is stated to be, still uses up the planet's resources. If consuming is necessary, the least unsustainable choice is buying something that already exists/that's already been used (vintage, thrift shops, consignment stores etc.).

Has the cheaper ones pilled? ( got those little bobbles on them) I bought a zara one and it was so annoying and in 6months it was unwearable. A follow up after a longer time I'd be really interested in watching
@meriumi6 жыл бұрын
I have one from Uniqlo I bought last spring, and at least mine hasn't pilled at all as of yet. As a disclaimer, I've been washing (hand-washing with Marseille soap) it quite sparingly and aired it after each use. There is quite a lot of fuzz on the surface, though (a tell of the thread not being spun too well), but on the other hand the fuzz makes the sweater warmer. I suppose a cashmere comb/lint shaver could be a good idea for us both (you could still save your sweater with that).
