Testing caravan lights without a 12v battery fitted??? 12v & 230v caravan electric.

Today I learnt a very important lesson about the caravan.
The 12v system runs separately from the 230v side. when I first plugged the EHU lead into the caravan I was expecting everything to be all working but as I found out that was not the case. the 12v system runs separately using a 12v leisure battery.
After a few hours of searching for the battery, I stumbled across the battery connectors and no battery was fitted. so to check if everything was working without having a battery connected I decide t use a 12v Jumppr pack that is used for starting cars with a flat battery. I found this to be a successful solution to my problem and worked well for what I needed it to do.

If you're going to live in the caravan full time or for long periods of time then it's worth buying a generator to keep the liesure battery topped up and also to give you 240V mains power. I recommend an inverter generator which will maximise the fuel it uses and the output load.

Kevin Dempsey iv been in the van for almost 10 months now, connected to 240v keeping the battery topped up using the built in inverter, I’m only using the battery as an emergency really. 👍👍

I've brought a 360\2 I have no power , I plucked in to main power nothing , battery no power just bathroom light works fuses are fine . No lights or wall plugs working

Hi kaye, good news is you have 1 working light. Does the bathroom work on battery or mains? I am unfamiliar with this van but what I would do is use the bathroom lamp to test the other lamps in the van and make sure the other lamps in the van are not blown. Have you put new lamps in the fittings that are not working? As for the no power to the sockets I’m not sure, could be a broken wire or connection. I would recommend getting a qualified electrician to come out and have a look for you.

I would first check the bulbs are working, then check by the battery has is not dead, if you are hooked up to the mains I would check fuses/ trip switches. Hope this helps thank you

Would it not have been easier to use the car battery? I also thought it was obviously not the reading light bulbs to blame when all the others didn't work.
