Thanks, this is the only place I could find out what the under-voltage cutoff voltage is! Amazing how difficult it is to find decent specs for stuff bought from China.

Thanks for walking through that. The balancing system seems of dubious value. It only works at the top end of voltage and if a little excess voltage is applied, the charging shuts off. This leaves a very narrow window for the balancing to occur.

@@johnbriggs7514 I have 5 or 6 different balancers. Love the ones from ISDT, good perfomance and reasonable price. Icharger one is very nice, but expensive. Ill give you some links. But remember these chargers can only balance up to a 8s pack. If you build in 36V or 48V these chargers wont help you.

Are the Daly's doing an active or passive balancing? Are they really distributing the charges between the batteries or just dissipating them using resistors? Yeah, 50mA is just too low to catch up with the chargers.

Stevenc22 thank you posting this video, Question stevenc22 if you have a 24 battery pack with that BMS in your video what's the cutoff point of the battery pack, like 24 battery pack charge to 29 volts and when you use it to power something it discharged to 24 volt right, like 12 volt battery pack charge up to 13.2 and discharge down to 11 volts, sorry for being confuse about this, the cut off voltage of a BMS, 12 VOLT AND 24 VOLT battery with BMS....Peace

Each cell has a max of 4.2 and a min of 3.0. So a 7S battery tops out at 29.4v and min voltage is 21 volts. For a 12V Lithium ion pack, you would use either a 3S (12.6 max 9.0 Min) or a 4S (16.8 Max 12.0 Min)

Hi, First of all want to say thank you for your videos, you inspired me to build my own battery and I did it. After I finish building my battery I have a problem with the bms it's not closing a surcuit and i can't charge my battery. Maybe you encounter a problem that the bms not working and not charging? Or you know a way to check a bms?
@stevenc22

Are your balance wires on correctly? Use a multimeter to check the balance wires. Make sure the order of the balance wires is correct as well. Some BMS you have to wake up by apply a charge current to the BMS.

Can I connect the battery directly to the hover board, bypassing the BMS?

Yes, but that is a bad idea. You could easily over discharge or over charge the battery without a BMS, damaging the battery

@@stevenc22 Thank you for the reply. I have a fully charged battery but, when connected to BMS, it does not power on the hoverboard. When I directly connect the battery (~36 volts) to the hoverboard, the hoverboard powers on. Is your warning of over discharging/ overcharging the battery only possible if I try to charge it? If so, I'm fed up with troubleshooting this darn thing and plan to just ride out the charge in the battery, until it's depleted, then throw everything away. Is that safe? Or do I risk over discharge/overcharge then, too?
@stevenc22

@@PeterOrrick you can ride it and drain the battery and throw it out. Trying to recharge it will be dangerous but not draining it down.

Question for anyone capable of answering: I have a 750w, 12v Power Supply (62 amps). I also have a custom built Li-ion 3s8p pack. The Daly says it can charge at max at 10amps. If I was to connect my power supply (62 amps) to my battery (10 charging amps) what is limiting the current (if anything)? Would the Daly limit the charge current? Or would I simply blow up my battery?
@stevenc22
@stevenc22 2 жыл бұрын
The battery will try to draw as much current as the batteries can absorb. Probably less that 60 amps but more than 10 amps. A good BMS will turn off the charger because of over current. A BMS cannot limit current it can only turn off the battery if it detects conditions outside it's parameters. That much current might blow the BMS. You should use a ISDT or icharger with the power supply so you can dial in exactly what rates you want to charge at.

@@stevenc22 Thanks for the reply. I attempt this last night. I put a 5 amp fuse inline with the positive lead and gave it a try. With my dmm in series, after turing the power supply on, It was drawing at 4 amps. I had already been charging it using a 1.5 amp power supply, followed by a 4 amp power supply before I gave this a try. It was already partially charged by the time I tried it, so I am not sure what would have happened if the unit was at close to empty. Either way, thanks for the reply. I think I'll end up doing the charge as you describe because the power supply is supplying constant voltage, variable amps (the amps is a product of the voltage delta). I think it's better to have constant amps variable voltage. No?
