Just wanted to pop in here with some knowledge regarding recycled polyester. A lot of brands when using recycled polyester use recycled plastic bottles - but what many people don't know is that plastic bottles are usually made from PET plastic, which is really bad for you if it comes in direct contact with your skin for a longer period of time, as your skin absorbes the chemicals, which may lead to some health issues in the long run. I recommend reading "To Dye For" by Alden Wicker - it's truly eye opening!!! I'm saying this as someone who has been studying textiles for the past year.

Some of them also just buy plastic bottles because they don’t have enough to recycle and create with. So that’s also something to keep in mind.
@gooseberries6085 ай бұрын
I wonder what the health risks of that are compared to other sources of plastic we come into contact with everyday? I mean, the skin is typically an effective barrier and absorbs far less of a dose of poison than ingesting it would. On the other hand, unless you make a concerted effort to avoid it, our food typically comes into contact with plastic which may or may not result in our ingestion of those very same chemicals but I would assume would have far worse consequences because the route of exposure. Not to mention the burning of fossil fuels and VOCs other air pollution that we inhale on a daily basis. Everyone has their own personal levels of what they are comfortable with, but personally I’m not going to worry about something on my skin when we are probably ingesting and inhaling those same chemicals from different sources.

One fabric recommendation I'd give for a more sustainable activewear option: bamboo!! I tried it a few years ago with an Australian active/casual brand, and I am CONVERTED. Cons are that it can be more expensive & although it's definitely more sustainable than most, it's not 100% perfect, but it's literally one of the most comfortable & sweat-resistant fabrics I have ever tried. Give it a go!

Apparently it's harder to raise your arms in modern clothes since the armholes are cut too big. So theoretically a well fitted leather jacket with properly sized arm holes should be okay to move in

I love Mia's stand on sustainability and her attention to detail on that. One thing that might be worth thinking about is that making clothing from recycled plastic bottles is not actually more sustainable. It comes down to the fact that plastic bottle recycling is an endless loop, you can keep recycling bottles into other bottles/products over and over and therefore reduce the amount of plastic in the system in the long term. If you then take those bottles and convert them into clothes/fabric you end their potential to be recycled again. Essentially now in fabric form, they can never be recycled into something else (or very rarely), and it means those clothes (and therefore plastic) will ultimately end up in the landfill. I do think using sustainable fabrics is great and definitely appreciate that Mia has done A LOT of research on this, just a little wary about suggesting making clothes from recycled bottles. Anyways thanks again Mia for another awesome video!
@snusmumricken5 ай бұрын
not to mention that PET plastic is actually dangerous to your health if you have it against your skin long term
@sourlimerick5 ай бұрын
The way plastic is currently recycled is more of a downward spiral than an infinite loop. The quality of plastic degrades each time it’s recycled so it can only be recycled a limited number of times before becoming unusable. That’s why it’s best to use less plastic overall. Use a reusable water bottle and take care of your clothes in order to make them last long (since plastic-less clothes isn’t always possible). Turn unwearable clothes into rags or stuffing if possible. That’s why recycling is last in “reduce, reuse and recycle”.

I think Girlfriend Collective and Patagonia have both proven that quality activewear can be made with recycled materials. I understand activewear is hard to make with natural fabrics- but we already have so polyester on earth already. If Popflex wants to prove they care about sustainability- I think they’d put more priority into converting the existing items they have into recycled fabrics rather than releasing the many new items that they have been lately.

I usually don't comment on videos but there is something important I want to point out! I am a textile and clothing technology student and polyester isn't always a bad choice and recycled polyester isn't always a good choice either!! Suppose you use polyester from PET bottles as mentioned. In that case, you are taking something away from a system that is good at recycling its material and putting it into a form where it can no longer be recycled. Fibers are difficult to recycle, especially when mixed with other materials such as elastane or cotton, it makes it impossible to split them apart into their main materials again. Also, cotton sounds nice because it is a 'natural' fiber but you have to keep in mind the ethics and sustainability of growing this crop. It is very hard to determine what the best material choice is, but I encourage everyone to research this a little more. Just because something is recycled, it doesn't mean it's the most sustainable choice and just because something is synthetic, it also doesn't mean it's the worst choice :)

Hey Mia, love your videos just a quick clarification on the subject of fibres- Polyester is actually less environmentally taxing than cotton if you compare them side by side (to produce) however the issue is the fact that it’s not meant to last so the actual garment might not last long but it takes ages to degrade in the environment. Also there are far more polyester items and garments including blends that are produced as it’s cheap and widely available. However barring that, as far as i know 100% polyester isn’t necessarily a bad thing if the garment is constructed well and you plan on using it for a long time (even issey Miyake uses this for the pleats please line). Do look out for poly-cotton blends though as garments like that usually don’t maintain their fibre quality and end up feeling worn after a single wash
@snusmumricken5 ай бұрын
recycled polyester is often made with plastics bottles which are a type of plastic that is super harmful long term against the skin. At the end of the day polyester is still incredibly devastating. Cotton can be made sustainably where as polyester cannot

We love you Mia & we miss mama Maples whenever she’s not in the videos. I wish y’all would make a separate channel & post more together. I especially LOVE your pranks. 😂 Love, Mandy 🩶

I may be an outlier... but this is the only "review"-type channel I watch besides Safiya Nygaard's channel. You both give entertaining investigative reviews of things that are trending. It's not a sales platform, it's an entertainment channel. If you change the business model to be a sales platform, please mark those videos clearly in the titles as advertisements, because I would skip over those videos. Also, there are SO many sales channels on social media. So the fact that you have a successful entertainment channel makes your content (and Safiya Nygaard's content) different. I would never actively seek out the sales/discount-code/multi-level-marketting channels, but I search for your content on a daily basis because it's uplifting and fun. It's a refreshing escape from the onslaught of attention-draining sales pitches that make up the majority of online content. It seems like Blogilates puts a lot of work into designing functional and cute activewear. I find it off-putting when Cassie posts emotional videos with soft piano ballads playing the background if anyone criticizes her products. There's also a huge difference between how her products are reviewed by her "friends" (ie her commission-paid sales team), vs people who specialize in activewear in general and who don't allow her to track their audience through links or codes. If she wants you to join her sales team, ask her to pay you for all your integrity and your audience's attention is worth! I'm on your side and I support what you've created here and how special it really is! ♥

I think you misunderstood her question. She didn't ask if she should do sponsored videos as review videos. She asked if offering her coupon code would be ok, since she makes a little (very little btw) money from the sales using the coupon. The reviews would still be the same, no sponsor, not being paid to talk about it, she would just mention the coupon. USING LINKS AND COUPONS IS NOT BEING SPONSORED OR "SELLING THINGS" Taking the example you used, Safiya has used coupons and affiliate links from time to time and that doesnt change her content. Also, the only thing using her coupon "tracks" is the amount of people that watched her and bought things, the same with the links. Not to mention that the prices of these clothes are high and would be nice for people to spend less money if they could. It's a win-win.

I thought I was being hypercritical of Cassie pretending to be sad when there were nicely-worded criticisms of her designs. Most of the time, she’s like “Okayyy I guess I /could/ do this for you guys.” At least, she took her customers’ criticisms into her redesign process. Maybe, she was trying to be humorous. But it came out as weird to me.

I trust your opinion, Mia. I just got a “miss a” order because of your video and that’s not something I do with people online very often. I have a hard time with trust, but your character has always shined through your interactions and you have been consistent from the beginning. ❤ you are LITERALLY my favorite person online.

Love these videos! I think the sustainability is frustrating to me because literally the first product is almost entirely made of synthetic, plastic materials. It's greenwashing and, yes, it is extremely hard to find clothes that aren't using synthetics (especially stretchy clothes) but I'd rather clothes that won't affect the environment so much. Especially for the price tag as well! I know I'd be paying for Cassie's designing etc but the material is a let down. My favs were definitely the plane pants though!

Not to mention it feels like every time I turn around there’s a new item they’re selling. Gives fast fashion vibes to me tbh. I would love to buy her clothing but I think I’ll hold off and try to buy secondhand instead.
@elise4415 ай бұрын
Hard agree! I also think that the material isn't being used in the most effective way possible. The enchanted hood and long back on the puffer jacket, for example, use way more material in favor of it being "aesthetic". While I understand that they are fashion items and they're supposed to look good, it feels disingenuous to market something that wastes so much fabric as "sustainable". Definitely greenwashing!

I’ve made a few purchases from pop flex and they’ve been frustrating. From ordering a medium top to fit my larger bust and realizing it’s still a tad too big. Ordering leggings in my normal size and being too snug. And then ordering the opposite next time and the top suddenly being too small and pants wayyyyyy too big. I had to return all of It. I’ve only ever kept a sweater that’s meant to look oversized. I was nervous to try from the new swimwear line but risked it and was pleasantly surprised (though I will likely return one of the pieces). I just wish these were a tad more consistent. I do have active wear from Aerie and I LOVE them, and can’t get enough! So that’s where I’ll stay for active wear! If I want cozy clothes, maybe I’ll come back to PF.

As someone who is new here, trust me everyone would thoroughly appreciate the coupon code. I know SO MANY people who want to try the collection but sadly can't afford it. I personally have been wanting her collection since around the time it first came out (in 2016!) and I only now have enough money to get some stuff from it! And my only critique is that you didn't get the jumpsuit from the thumbnail, I've been wanting it really badly lately, and I clicked because I specifically wanted to see an honest review of it before purchasing it. Other than that this was a great watch.

I have been watching for a long time now and always love your video's! Please don't take this the wrong way, but here are a few things I have noticed: Whenever you get a piece of clothing, the black color doesn't translate so well on camera. I can't see how the fabric sits, reliëf on body or how the light hits(apart from the closeups). Other colors would be fun and better to see! One other thing, I've noticed an increase the past year in video's of buying lots of stuff and reviewing it on the channel. I kinda miss the other kinds of video's, and this is not really sustainable too. I love the renovation, crafting, sewing, cleaning and cooking video's too! Or maybe something with styling the clothes you alredy own? Or thrift? Would love to hear other vieuwers thoughts aswell :) Thanks for working so hard for us Mia ❤

i agree i did initially start watching her because of her thrifting videos with dresses and also love her 2nd channel due to the cooking and more laid back style. she definitely does have a ton of stuff she’s bought and never uses! she discusses that a lot to on how much she has from never finishing prior videos

She does purchase a lot of items, but she does lots of giveaways to subscribers (like she does in this video) and to great charities as well. I do love and miss the laid back cooking and sewing type videos, but I enjoys these too because she is one of the few authentic people out there.

I know this comment is super late, but I was hoping when it comes to popflex products that you could also do a one year update on the products you bought and used. One of my biggest worries, especially since I live in Canada too (hello shipping fees + customs fees) is that everything from popflex is just super expensive. However, I can justify it if the products do truly last. I'd love to know especially how your magic flash duffel bag has faired since you bought it? Do you still like it now after putting it to use? What about the clothes; did the seams end up holding up? Did you have issue with pilling or any quality issues after washing the clothes a bunch of times? Thank you.

From your colour selections: 2 is best, with 3 in second place. That first white dress- the seam immediately stands out to me as not good. The leather jacket like- not for bikers in any way- leather is super durable and will save your skin in a motorbike accident, which is the point. The “plane” trousers are so cute! The hoodie dress. It looks cute from a distance, but up close the rippling of the strip of fabric at the waist, doesn’t look good. But the colour is also very good. Love the skort so much. The overalls. Yes. Excellent.

Agree totally. I think many would be appalled by how much of what they consume is produced with sweat shop labor. I like Cassie and her videos but that doesn’t translate to good production ethics without some evidence. Interesting to me how people ^^ often jump immediately to defend someone they don’t know and take any curiosity as harsh criticism. It’s not personal against Cassie-it’s a good point about production ethics!
