Did you get false result with round cut (well cut) ? And does the angle may change the result? Like, if you put the tester at 88.7 degre... you may/can got a bad reading?
@TheGemAcademy
@TheGemAcademy 8 ай бұрын
Perhaps! Therefore the instruction state it should be at 90 degrees :) for the round brilliants I tested - all was accurate until beyond a J colour 😅

Love your videos Julia. Thanks for the great content. Will the PRESIDIUM SDS-II work on ROUGH DIAMONDS that have passed as a DIAMOND with the Presidium Multitester III. If not, what instrument can I use to identify Type Ia from Type IIa ROUGH DIAMONDS?
@TheGemAcademy
@TheGemAcademy Жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you so much - that means the world! Oh no - This is not the machine for rough as it works on total internal reflection. A basic tester that could help separate type I and type II would be the Presidium SDS II or similar.... (a tester based on SWUV transparency) Observations should help you a bit too. Looking for any yellow tones would suggest type Ia (a lack tells you nothing) and the form of the crystal would also be useful to note. If you want to go big with machinery - an FTIR is the way for diamond type determination 🤗 I hope this is helpful!

I just bought this and I tested a battery, a rock, a rough diamond and a cut/polish diamond. All read Moissanite. Not reliable at all. Now I have to return to Kassoy and receive 50% of my money back (50% restocking fee). Not happy at all.

Hi Sarah - thank you for sharing your experience! I’m wondering whether for the cut diamond/s you tested - whether you found the same thing as I did. What were the shapes/colour grades? Regarding Kassoy - that’s crazy! I’ve never ordered from them. I had a quick look at their website. They state a potential restocking fee only if all the bits aren’t returned with the unit (ie. packaging/leaflets) and I read “up to 25%” - well worth asking them about that as 50% is like $600? Crazy.

Can it test rough diamonds?
@TheGemAcademy
@TheGemAcademy 19 күн бұрын
No :) it needs total internal reflection from the gem (light returned from the gem) to be able to test the light reflected back into the unit

What is up with the uv light turning the diamond blue? What's that all about?
@TheGemAcademy
@TheGemAcademy 2 жыл бұрын
It's due to impurities within the crystal structure (elements that do not make up the chemical composition of the gem)... Regarding natural colourless diamonds - blue fluorescence is due to nitrogen - specifically these impurities when they exist as groups of 3 within the crystal structure. This impurity is super common, existing in approx. 98% of natural diamonds. As a result many do fluoresce blue varying from super faint to very strong. Different impurities/combinations/defects can cause different colours of fluorescence :)

Nooo. As it mentions in the video - for well-cut facetted diamonds only (works best on round brilliant) because it relays on light being returned from within the stone.

Hi! This tool is by Presidium and can be purchased from the Presidium website or through one of their suppliers. www.presidium.com.sg/category/diamond-moissanite-testers price is around $1250USD (plus any import fees). For this tool - I would highly recommend checking out its limitations discussed at the end of this video - as it is not helpful for most simulants (these must be checked for through other tests or by eye) and is only best for D-J colour well-cut ROUND BRILLIANT stones

Can an earth natural diamond tests as a moissanite? Please advise. Tkx
@TheGemAcademy
@TheGemAcademy Жыл бұрын
Rare Type IIb diamonds would test as synthetic moissanite on such testers as these contain boron - making them semi-conductors of electricity. Extremely rare in nature - approx 0.01% and are usually blue in colour. Very unliley to come across one outside the fancy coloured diamond market :)

Which one is the best one for cabonado black diamond
@TheGemAcademy
@TheGemAcademy 2 жыл бұрын
@@diamondmeteoriteandotherro8507 there are not testers designed for general gem/mineral identification... I would recommend testing the specific gravity and, if you wish, it's hardness with hardness pencils (I only recommend this as it's a rough specimen as this is a destructive test). To find out it's exact liners composition you would need advanced tests such as Raman and EDXRF :)

Many screeners are doing a simple test. Best to do a diamond tester first (ie. thermal and electrical) - then do a screening test IF the result comes up as diamond (but be aware of some laboratory-grown diamonds that test as synthetic moissanite too.....) Check out my other videos for this! kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6PFgn6NgteKh5o

Will enhanced color diamonds phosphoresce or flouresce?
@TheGemAcademy

Absolutely. Not always... but commonly :) there's a huge variation depending on the stone
@FEZZ123

@@TheGemAcademy so most likely if a blue diamond flouresces faint chance it's natural ? I have a Présidium Diamond Mate -A which has thermo and electric so Idk if that's enough to tell if it's a natural blue diamond ? It doesn't phosphorece but it has near no faint flourecence .
@TheGemAcademy
@TheGemAcademy Жыл бұрын
@@FEZZ123 for blue diamonds, the greater reactions are usually under SWUV light (as is the phosphorescence) and this is true for both natural diamonds and laboratory-grown diamonds. Treatments May react differently depending on whether the stone treated is natural/laboratory- grown and also the treatment method. My advice is to figure whether the stone is a natural diamond or laboratory-grown diamonds first... if it's natural - second up would be to find out it's diamond type.... let me know what you conclude and I can advise from there.

@@TheGemAcademy Thank you ! You're amazing! 😃 For Presidium Diamond Mate-A test came out as natural diamond. I tested with SWUV and there was nearly no flourecence but there was faint green flourecence in some parts. Does that mean it's not pure blue and it's blue -green ? Fyi there was cero phosphorescence .

Is This tester recognising cubic zirkonia? Wen I try zirkonia it show: Diamond 😂
@TheGemAcademy
@TheGemAcademy Жыл бұрын
No 🤗 this tester has the possible results of diamonds, laboratory-grown diamonds and synthetic moissanite. These are the only three result options -therefore, all other materials would get one of these three results. Do not think this is misidentification - but rather incorrect use of the screener. (But do note that this screener is not the most reliable even when testing the three materials listed above - revisited the end of the video for limitations) For diamond vs simulants (exceot synthetic moissanite) thermal testers are useful :) Most screeners are for use AFTER you've figure out it's the material diamond - this is a very important thing to note!

@@TheGemAcademy thank You for andswer😊 But the tester should be upgrad😅 because when you try glass, it show: diamond! It would be better when the tester will show: “not diamond” 🤓
@TheGemAcademy
@TheGemAcademy Жыл бұрын
@@zbigniew-nastalek unfortunately, a basic tester can not test for a series of things. So! In your testing process - use a thermal tester first.... then for all things that get the result 'diamond' - one could use this tester. And don't forget the power of your eyes! If one can not tell a diamond from a simulant - I would strongly recommend learning this first be before attempting the often much more complex task of separating diamond from laboratory-grown diamond 🤗
