I just tried this with the previous FSD 12.5.2.1. It nagged the crap out of me for wearing sunglasses. So glad I just got this update.

I have two different pairs of sunglasses. One pair works fine. With the other pair I get very aggressive nagging where I had to take them off and tug on the wheel. Also on 12.5.4 and it doesn’t seem as nice as previous builds. Random slow downs, hard braking at yellow lights, not reading speed limit signs, and speed control issues.
@eastmanwebb5477Ай бұрын
I just received 12.5.4 on HW3 on a 2018 Model 3 yesterday. It did very well 85% of the time. I drove in NYC and it completely ignored the highway exit it was supposed to take causing it to reroute. Also, when going through the Brooklyn Battery tunnel, it kept wanting to slow down dramatically when no one was in front of us. This made the driver behind me very mad, causing him to honk at me. It just doesn’t like that tunnel for some reason.

There are still situations where 12.5.4 slows down, for example, slowing down to 30mph in a 50mph roadway in the morning without traffic and I find myself pressing on the accelerator to keep up with the speed limit. and it still does these unnecessary lane changes even when “minimal lane changes” are already toggled.
@MetzTechАй бұрын
Speed control is definitely the biggest remaining problem
@Lost_In_LAАй бұрын
I use the automatic speed offset setting. It's not unique to 12.5.4, but it's a little annoying when there is no traffic and FSD chooses to go slower than the speed limit. #FullSundayDriving

@kihfioАй бұрын
I totally agree with you about wanting the car to do as much as it can, by itself. When I use auto speed selection, I’m always going 10-12 miles over the speed limit; the offsets are at zero. Here in Texas, you get a ticket going 10 over . . . no questions asked! It seems like the car wants to go too fast. I have experienced going too slow on the freeways. That feature needs a lot of work. For now I’ll just leave it off. I do think it’s a great idea though!
@jbhornerАй бұрын
12.5.4 here. The car still stupidly stops way too short from the limit line (real or perceived). This causes it to stop, and then inch forward to where it should have stopped in the first place. The forced automatic wipers option should be dismantled until they find a way to actually have the wipers only activate when there is a reason. Yesterday's drive started with a relatively clean windshield and ended with one that had streaks and smudges all over it. Today's fun was a left turn on a 4-lane street with a concrete/grass median separating each side. There were two cars approaching on my right, and one on the left. The two cars on the right occupied both lanes on that side. FSD decided it was okay to proceed with an action that would have ostensibly either caused them to slam on their brakes, or hit me. The car on the left was rapidly approaching, so it's not as if it was going to wait in the two lanes for the cars coming on my right to pass. Needless to say I quickly pressed the brake pedal. In my mind, this was a dead-obvious scenario that shouldn't have happened. Though I can agree that FSD has improved, it still does really stupid things. And it leaves me with the thought: "Is it just as easy (or easier) to drive without FSD versus with FSD." I find that it's easier without FSD. I know what I'm going to do, and I can generally anticipate what other drivers are going to do. (Or select the safest, proactive move if I do not know what they're going to do.) With FSD, I not only have to anticipate what the other drivers are going to do, I have to anticipate what FSD is going to do...and potentially intervene. Hardly an easier drive.

FSD 12.5.1.2 has still been more trustworthy than 12.5.4 for me. I've experienced a few cases of it going too fast before a traffic light or cutting it very close as a car was driving right in a parking lot. Hopefully it just needed a week to calibrate. Smart summon has been fun to show off.

Cool vid, if you do the test with closing your eyes though you should have someone else in the car if you’re on a public road just for safety. Or maybe test it in an empty parking lot.

Classic pairs of glasses don't pose a problem for FaceID on iPhone to see the eyes, but polarized glasses do pose problems, and yet they're widespread. You'd have to try it with these 😂 Of course, the car may not be able to see anything through normal glasses lol

"Surely it can see through the sunglasses" Please acquire a pair of sunglasses that have lenses that look like silver one-way mirrors. This way the car definitely won’t be able to see your eyes. Great content and thanks for sharing.

I couldn't live without sunglasses. The sunglass feature is my favorite thing about 12.5.4. It is pretty smooth overall, but unfortunately it does have occasional issues. I've had it try to stop at green lights and blinking yellows. But the worst for me is still lane selection for upcoming turns... still on the todo list for Tesla I see. And I do have one unfortunate edge case less than 2 miles from my house where it will not get into the right turn lane (probably due to a solid white line and a bike path in-between the main road and the turn lanes). It did work fine in FSD 12.3.6 though. I'm also on HW3 FYI.

It's because you drive wide open text book roads. There are other places where it doesn't fly :) And yes, the sunglasses really is forfeiting the surveillance. It can't see your eyes. You can put your head back, go slack jawed, maybe drool a little, see if it catches on :)
