Appreciate you going through that for us. Just bought an indoor trainer so I'm "looking forward" to doing some of those same tests.

That was more like the evolution of cycling agony courtesy of an FTP test… definitely can relate… 😆🍻

my ftp test of choice is based on advice from coach kolie moore. it essentially means riding a flat effort at what feels like threshold (not your limit) and holding that intensity for around 40 mins or more. it should be highly aerobic, and removes the more glycolitic or anaerobic side of the effort. short effort tests or ramp test % or AI are just guesses at what should be a doable wattage. it also makes it easy to pitch training intensity and duration afterwards.

Sounds like a good, but hard, test! I could take my approx ftp and see how long I can ride at it!

Thanks, very clear outline! I will do a ramp test soon, to check my situation. It is about one year after the previous which was 260 W. Curious how far it dropped, currently 66 years old, 72 kg, and 192 cm length.

Thanks that was interesting stuff. If I was to do a skin fold calliper test, I'd need a bigger calliper right now! Right old porker after Christmas and a couple of doses of man-flu.
