I just visited a public skating Glice ice rink in order to give it a try myself. It was appaling. No wonder nobody was skating there and everyone who tried left after a few minutes. I really tried - my edges just would not grip and kept sliding. The friction was too much so it was hard to move. My blades got dull after some 5-10 minutes of trying to skate. Perhaps this ice rink did not do a proper maintenance of the Glice and perhaps it is better with fresh new tiles but I cannot imagine this to be a good surface to practice with your skates on. Stickhandling perhaps.

Could you do a video: The best synthetic ice panels where you compare extra ice, glice, hockeyshot, or other brands?

I have some hockey shot tiles which are great but then I got polyglide and those are much better if you want more glide. If you want my resistance then hockey shot is good also

I wish these companies would try to sell to towns and rec centers line turf grass does. Hockey is kind of held back south of Buffalo because “eff around time” is really limited

Any big difference between Xtraice and Glice? Do you recommend one over the other? There specs on their websites seem to have many similarities, including the t&g connections with pegs. Thanks.

@rossprohaska62635 жыл бұрын
So my question about synthetic ice is do you adjust your hollow because of the difference between it and real ice so your transition between the two might be better? If you get synthetic ice I’m thinking you probably are going to have a Sparx machine also so setting up your hollow would be easier and quicker?
@HockeyTutorialOfficial5 жыл бұрын
If it’s good quality synthetic you don’t really need to worry about your hollow and edges. We do have home sharpeners but can easily bounce from good synthetic to ice without sharpening. Of course if you skate a lot of synthetic you will need to sharpen. Depending on the brand of synthetic, you might also need to be for a deeper hollow.

As a hockey Dad looking to purchase synthetic ice I found your videos to be very informative! Keep up the great work! In your opinion, which brand (Glice, Xtraice, etc.) has the best glide? Which brand produces the least amount of plastic shavings/dust? Glice, Xtraice, HockeyShot Extreme Glide, SmartRink, etc. all promise great glide but they haven't been tested and compared independently.

Does synthetic ice wear out your skates quicker ? If so how often should you get you skates sharpened when using it?
@melik.a33185 жыл бұрын
I saw another video that said if you use the synthetic ice for about 30 minutes and longer you have to sharpen your skates but I would probably just do it after every session on the synthetic
