Problem with trist is she unironically got screwed with the changes in the most obnoxious way possible. Trist e and r are permanently slightly lower range then your autos because riot somehow don't actually know how the champions abilities interact with her range. They gave her extra starting auto range and nerfed the passive, but didn't adjust the e and r base range to compensate so now any time you use e or r at max range you will micro step forward so it will never be instant and will cancel autos.

I know you're probably joking and I'm taking this way too seriously, but personally, I don't mind it. appreciate the personality/commentary and passion/theory crafting alone. sometimes the boring/safe way is the best way, although I don't know if trist is the champ to do that, more something like sivir/lux/ziggs maybe. in my opinion the game should be more slow & grand with emphasis & reward for objectives, smart strategy, and less about random killing, coin flipping, stat checking, reaction speed, and random luck. but ik this is just solo q, and every year it quite literally goes the opposite direction ’cause that shit *is* boring, so it is what it is lol

If you go shiv/kraken/bork first then you have AS instantly. You can also go Navori second. Stat shard, Berserker's greaves, legend: alacrity and maybe even Lethal Tempo(?) can all help a lot too.
