The main wing they used was too small, it needed a longer cord length. They were trying to reduce drag but the main drag reduction is to come from lifting the boat.

There are a lot of geometric deficiencies happening that prevent this one from being practical..

Half this fast? Bloody hell, that was a good effort mate. I'll sell you my Tasman Express sea kayak if you're looking for one lol.

Does anyone remember the foiled double hull, bicycle cranked, upright rider propeller driven from the mid 80s? it was featured in Scientific American on the cover of one of their editions. Someone made a few, modified from the original prototype and sold a few. They were good for a sprint up on the foils, but slower pedaling and they would settle back down on the hulls.

Well. Back to the drawing board. Good effort though.
@spongeimperium126 Жыл бұрын
This is actually exactly what I wanna make. Could you show a video of how you transfered power from the cranks to the propeller
@jp1850g Жыл бұрын
Theres a few different ways you can do it. The simplest is by having a chain which connects to a sprocket up top and goes through a hollow chamber all the way down the mast which connects to a sprocket on the propeller shaft. This chain would need to twist 90 degrees like a Möbius Loop. Another way is to use 2 gearboxes which use bevel gears at the first 90 degree turn the drive train needs to make up top to change direction downwards, then a drive shaft down the mast and then the 2nd gearbox to change direction horizontal which would drive the propeller shaft. A third way would be universal joints but I dont think this is ideal because the rotation of the prop would be oscillated instead of constant with the rotation of the crank(foot pedals)

Hobie did this with sailpower and essentially a kayak two decades ago. Cool but now new!

You may be referring to the Hobie Trifoiler? It was based on the Longshot developed by Greg Ketterman.

Doesn't look good to me. Too high speed and too much power required to keep that pace for any practical amount of time.

Just because stabbing warrants extreme fear does not invalidate fear of freezing water... You just made a logical fallacy :-) Aside from which, he looked to me like a man with limited space to complete something technically challenging, he was concentrating!

shotgunsurgeon789 Ever fallen under a boat being cable dragged? Put all your macho posturing aside and consider that fear operates on a scale... He might not be terrified but fear in this situation is healthy, although I still maintain that he's simply concentrating! Slow burn_172 This is the YT comments section, did you expect anything else?
