I have to thank you, Matt. My wife normally hates me watching bikes and car videos on youtube, as she is not interested in them at all (and i watch a lot of them). Whenever a Matt Spears video comes on, she says "ooh, smiley Matt!" and sits down and watches with me. your outright determination to see the bright side of everything is damn infectious. We love it! @ No, I meant Henry Ford and his Quadricycle, 1895ish, which it looks much more similar. Bremer looked like a Sleigh with wheels that were too small, but thanks.

18:22 just ditch the spokes, get a rolling rod bender, bend some stock to the ID of the wooden hoop, weld spokes from the hub to the metal hoop you've made, and finally bolt the wooden hoop with the rubber to the metal wheel.

Add a couple pulleys to reverse the reigns and make it more intuitive

No need for any more pulleys. Simply cross the cords and hold the left loop in your right hand. Hardly rocket science! 🙄

Put a steering lock on it so the tiller doesn't push you off the wagen in the event if loosing control

In the interim, while you rebuild the KTM, perhaps you could put a well-silenced stock Predator in it, make the front end look old, and take it into town. Just for one video, perhaps you could major on people's reactions rather than on outright performance.

Get rid of the reins and make them limiting straps so that if you lose grip on the tiller it can't turn too sharp.

You need to make knobby tires for the back wheels. Cut up some mountain bile tires or something like that.

Definitely threw a valve shim when the throttle stuck. 22:32 And likely smacked a valve into the piston next time you hit rev limit 24:32

@MattSpears I kinda felt like this was the direction you were heading. You'll just need to source light but strong wheels for it. Maybe 55 gallon drums bottom cut and reinforced. Somehow make a bevel.

I think if you match the rear wheels to the front Dirt Bike ones, it would look incredible..., but i assume you want to keep the buggy to be as "original" as possible perhaps. Either way though, i love it. Tread in the back though for snow and whatnot...omg

Another vote for electric. The engine noise really kills the vibe of a carriage like that. I'm pretty sure Carl Benz's neighbors told him the same thing back in 1885.

You should make a capstan steering wheel, the steering wheel is the capstan and the rope are still attached the same you begin with,,you just need at least 2 pulley to redirect the pull and also act as tensioner for the rope tention adjustement, so the slack in the line is taken of .
