Your manure spreader works a little better than some politicians handling that stuff. At least you can control the amount.

That worked well. You have a good base to start with. Two things. One check the wheel bearings on it. If they check out you can get into big money. Second if you don’t want to tackle the bed boards yet, you may be able to cover that back end with a piece of sheet metal to get by. I’m so happy you showed back up in my feed. For some reason most of my faves disappeared. Thank you for sharing Evan!

Most I have ever worked on have two levers, one for bed speed one to turn beater off and on. The saddle that goes over the top of the web drive gear should move back and forth. It picks the pawl up off the gear sooner or later changing how much the gear is pushed per stroke.

That is NI 19.There was also a ground drive NI 18. We had 2 of them The Amish were going around grabbing up every NI ground drive manure spreader they could get their hands on, fixing them up repainting them and resale them as "Lancaster" brand manure spreaders .... until AGCO found out about it. Chances are the reason the boards at the end o f the bed are broke off is that the web caught them as it rotated . Often because it was too loose or the cogs it rode on worn down. And BTW Evan, quit riding that foot clutch. All it really was for is changing gears engaging power take off. Your hand clutch controls everything else especial close in work.

When I saw that you bought a manure spreader, I wondered where you were going to get manure to spread. Now I see. The only farmers I know of that spread manure are dairy farmers or farmers who keep their horses in barns. Both of those type of livestock produce so much manure, the farmers need mature spreaders to get rid of the excess manure (while fertilizing their fields). I hope you find yourself with enough compost to make your efforts worthwhile.

For grease zerks that won’t take any grease, it might not necessarily even plug it could be the grease has hardened or it’s rusted the ball in p,ace. Hit it with penetrating oil the tap the ball lightly with a small punch to loosen it. You can also heat it slightly with a torch to loosen the dried grease. The point is don’t ignore a fitting that won’t take grease that’s just asking something to break.

Even. The spreader must be used in a straight row. When you come to the end of the row, stop the PTO, turn into the next row and start the PTO again. If you don't you will bust the shaft universal joint. I know it was your first run. Keep rows closer together.

When I was a kid my dad had a New Idea ground driven manure spreader.. We had 4 horses and didn't get a tractor until I was about 14 years old. I continued using that spreader after I took over my dad's farm up until the ratchet control for apron starting skipping. When I moved 9 miles away, I left some machinery on that farm that was no longer working. A guy with a hobby farm and horses ended up with spreader and took it to a guy who restores old New Idea equipment.. He wanted it done quickly so the guy traded him for one already restored and charged him restoring fee $$$$$$$$$$$$$. That guy told me............" your dad's manure spreader is on display at the New Idea museum in Coldwater Ohio, I would like to go there someday and see my dad's New Idea manure spreader all restored.

Good effort. As you said it's running a little quick for feeding the manure through the spreader. Another help would be to go over the manure later on with a hay rake or scarifier to break up some clumps. Birds will break up the manure as well.

Glad it works. The leaks are for the chain and rust prevention. Someday you may find a sweet deal and have it as a back up. The good thing is it spreads. May want to do smaller test runs incase it breaks. Just wonder how it will do with heavy barn yard material. Run the heck out of it see what happens. Sure the reason it hit the market will show itself. It will be a good winter project. Well have a great weekend..

Looks like a good investment!! On the bed Evan, consider manufactured wood planks as they don't rot and will work the same as wood. I got an new ABI spreader and the entire box is made with these boards and bolted in. Easier to replace if a board does break and like I said, no rot

Evan, You 'bout "killed my happy soul" greasing/oiling that old spreader on your brand-new concrete floor.... Also, you need more engagement on that p.t.o. shaft! (see how it's wobbling?) Manure spreaders are great labor-savers. I had a New Holland and since I garden in 4' wide "beds" I removed the "slinger" at the rear so that it would drop straight down onto the bed. (without fertilizing the weeds on either side...) You should see if you can slow the bed "apron drive" down before you break an expensive bed chain. Another enjoyable video. But do invest in a new p.t.o. shaft!
@stevemartinez67573 жыл бұрын
You're going to need a bigger compost pile. LOL. I remember as a young kid being "the manure spreader" in the back of a pickup with a shovel spreading cow manure that we got from a local dairy. I didn't mind the smell (actually like the smell) and I never knew (at the time) that such a machine even existed.
