For this video I test Mr Color's Super Metallic line up.While only one of these is a true metalizer paint, the regular metallic paints here are great. I would add these great paints to your work bench without hesitation .

Excellent review. I too wanted to try these and see if they brushed on white model master metallizer‘s. That’s the main problem I have with the Metalizer line going out is not having a good replacement for metal paint for hand brushing. Although you have shown plenty of paints through the airbrush I would like to see the brushed on ability of these paints.

I don't know if these are like the Mr metal color line ,but those don't need to be thinned and are intended to be buffed to reveal the true look.
@gat-x105strikegundam53 жыл бұрын
Another awesome video! I had gotten some of these paints when I was a novice, and I knew nothing about thinning correctly. I hated them because I thought there was something wrong with the paints, (it was the fact that I was thinning them like 1 part paint to 1/4 part thinner..) however it’s nice to know it was indeed my fault for being so uneducated about thinning... About the chrome silver, when you were spraying it, it went on perfectly to me, but you kept on spraying and spraying and adding layers upon layers, I know you do that for testing/buffing purposes, but it seems that around the second coat it was a perfect bright chrome! I was wondering of you could show that chrome silver, but coated on twice or something sometime. Other than that, awesome video!! I’ve just finished my mg freedom custom paint job, I wish I could show you!

I'm wondering, have you seen the other colors of this range? I don't know why, but Super Iron, Super Chrome Silver, and Super Duralumin seems to look so similar to each other in the photos in Google. Even the two metal colors you featured seems to be so similar (unless I stand right there in person, I guess)

Very informative, as always! Would love to see you review the Mr Metal Color set. I've dabbled with them and they buff up brilliantly, but suppose the question I'd like to see answered is whether there's other paints that end up with the same finish, but don't need buffing

@@danzo5521 I used a cotton bud, or q-tip. You'll see the colour build up on it, when that happens I then rotate it and use a different side/part. Depending on how buffed you want it you can go over it again, but be wary not to scratch it

You should retest these using Mr. Color Rapid Thinner. Thin 2.5-3 parts thinner to 1 part paint, spray over gloss black the exact same way you do with Alclad. The SM205 and 206 especially.

It depends on the color used. The front of the label will say "Buffing" or "Non Buffing" signifying which one needs to be buffed

I’ve recently switched from AK Xtreme Metal paints to the Super Metallics (SM 201 and 206) mostly because I didn’t want to deal with enamel paints (I have enamel weathering products that I want to use directly on the Paint) and I’m very impressed with them, especially the durability. I usually thin SM 206 50-60% with Mr Hobby Rapid Thinner (the suggested thinner) and spray in light coats over GX2, although light coats are not necessary to get a nice finish.

Can the metallic paints be coated with protective layer of acrylic clear coat?
@OdwallaJuice3 жыл бұрын
From Mr.Color's website: "To seal the paint finish, coat use Super Clear or Mr.Super Clear UV Cut (excluding SM206 and SM08)... In the case of SM206 and SM08, clear paint cannot be applied over the painted surface, as it dulls the color of the paint surface."

You always paint way too much. Metals should have the smallest coat possible. putting down very small amounts per pass. You put way too much paint down per spoon to get a real look on how these paints actually look
