I believe you should have cut the stems shorter to fit the vase. Cutting the stems at an angle is important, too. Love the colors of the flowers. Very festive!

You will want to cut the stems at a angle so that you get rid of the dried ends. This allows the flowers to suck up the water and plant food to live longer. Cutting them will also allow you to proportion the flowers to the size of the vase. It was very sweet of you to get your mom flowers for her BDay! It’s one of my favorites from my boys! 🥰

other tip whuch may not be that important.(I heard cutting them at an angle under cold water) never thought that wsd such a goid idea because wouldn't that shock or injure the plant? such a bright festive bouquet. I always thing the bedt gifts are those from the heart and made physically by the sender. This says it brilliantly. I wanted to add I love that shirt on you Bennet. Norma here. Carnations are my favorite flower. I love their light scent. They also bring back memories of my first communion and confirmation where we carried carnation bouquets. I always cut a little bit off the bottom of the stems diagonally and remove any extra leaves before placing in the vase. Beautiful arrangement and perfect gift for mom’s birthday. Agree with the others, re-cutting the stem at an angle before putting them in your vase will give you a longer life to your flowers, especially roses. The reason is because when they are first cut, within 45 minutes of the cut the end dries preventing the stem from drawing in water so you have to re-cut the stem (best at a slanted angle). It will make them last longer and look fresher. Give it a try next time, see what you think. That's a common technique to do for pre-packaged flowers like the ones you have; Google videos show the technique.. It's a sweet thing for you to arrange flowers yourself for your mother! Very thoughtful effort, makes it more special.

Man of many talents! My father in law owned a florist and he trained me. I loved working on holidays at the florist and do wedding flowers for friends here and there. I loved shopping at the wholesale house lol … but even to this day I tend to review arrangements and what they cost nowadays. Some places are totally ridiculous on prices!

The bouquet looks pretty. I have been told that the ends of the stems will seal off when out of the water so a person should cut off the ends of the stems to re-open the channels in the stems so water will be absorbed into the stems.
