i have tried these caps. they are like how you would use an airbrush. I think it's how familiar a person is with new tools, it takes time to get used to them.
@aarone.7551
@aarone.7551 2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. So.. i am used to using an iwata eclipse airbrush, not spray paint, but it seems that someone who is used to a dual action airbrush, like myself, may feel that this cap is more natural for them to use if they are just learning to paint with cans. With dual action airbrush pull back controls paint volume and push down controls air volume. Completely independent of each other. Spray cans cant be controlled like that - it is more like a single action airbrush. Doke is an expert at cans already so it just doesn't make sense for him to retrain his hand.

this cap is like an NYC Fatcap, with the difference that you can not push it and the “tilting” just makes more pain in the wrist. I tested them too and decided not to make a video. 😂

I paint mainly with brushes watercolor, oil paint & acrylic and the transitions of this caps reminded me when you’re good at oil painting & want to transition to watercolor … the brush strokes & hand motions are completely different. I think this caps make you focus on your technique more & don’t allow you to use short cuts.

@@coreartalex6708 I was just going to say this. Respect to both SMOE and DOKE as they are both obviously really really good artists and content creators ! But maybe this cap just takes a little more time getting used to. Imagine if you had this cap first all these years. I wonder if the old cap would make much sense maybe kind of “basic” 🤔 just some thoughts haha

Agree, These cups give very nice and interesting lines. I think it would be cool to use them in places where you need some contrast in lines. And yes, I imagine these cups might fit very good for calligraphy stuff. For example, for modern calligraphy.

If these caps had some sort of pressure control, like a protective ring or something that prevents from pressing too hard, these would be a next level caps.

I haven't used them, but I can see in quick situations ("illegal" lol), having a variety of sprays, with out changing tips, would be handy! 2-3 cans, one type of tip, with practice, could get yo piece bombed up quick!

Not really needed though since you got your different caps loaded for outline fill etc and you can squeeze thinner lines out of fatter caps with probably the same amount of practice as it would take to get used to this

Switching from single action airbrushes to dual action is hard and needs a lot of hours. It seems to be same with these, that is dual action cap. If one would master it, how good then? I remember those feelings when I started airbrushing, too much trigger pull and spidering paint😅

It's an interesting proposition, as you've done hundreds to thousands of pieces with traditional caps your muscle memory/technique may just be too hard wired into yourself to quickly adapt to a different mechanic. However I personally really enjoy your works & content for the fact you constantly try to break your norms and try new styles & challenges. So your ability to adjust is probably considerably higher than average, but regardless you gave it a fair shake and made a solid piece & video. I couldn't ask for anything more and I'll keep coming back for the next one. Keep up the great work👍.

So essentially the new cap works more like an airbrush. Very cool! Thanks for sharing. One cap to rule them all... Also, it must be said that muscle memory for you is not something that is going to go away in a day. Like all new, more intricate things it takes time to master. It's hard to beat something that pretty much already does the job and you have so many hours of use with.

These caps remind me a lot of flexible nib fountain pens. The pressure applied changes everything. Maybe the way to make this cap more accessible / easier for fine control is to have a variant of the cap with a more rigid body (i.e. you need to apply more pressure to get it to go from thin to fat spray; this is something you see in flexible nibs as well). I think these still have a lot of potential and will likely have a steeper learning curve getting the muscle memory and confidence that goes along with it for the various widths this cap can produce. If you can stomach it, I would love to see more content with these caps/hear any more feedback on how you think your control develops, if any.

It would be interesting if there was some type of switch or other mechanism on the cap that could act as a depth stop or limiter for the amount of pressure. So maybe when you press in one place it will go full speed but if you press in another place it will be blocked from going past half speed, something like that. But for a little cap like this, maybe not a practical way to incorporate that, having the one hinge is probably hard enough to make.

Muscle memory is an amazing thing. When you do a certain thing for so long and then switch to something else, it can be very foreign. Imagine someone who learned how to ski at a young age and then as an audit they strapped on a snow board. Technique as they know it is gone. Sure the basics are still there but the application is totally different. All this to say, one day of using something different is not a good indicator that something is good or bad. It would take commitment to re-learning technique for you to present an actual honest review of this product. You may end up with the same results, but one go around is far from a good test.

Im by no means good at any of this, but maybe the problem with control has not only to do with not being used to it, but because in the same travel distance of a regular cap, youre now going through the entire spectrum of cap sizes. So you would need surgical precicion to get your desired result.
