Testing out a longer bar on the Logmax 7000

Just a quick video testing out a new bar. It went good I was worried about throwing chains but I had no issues. I hope you enjoy!

Awesome machine Digger we those down here on huge tracks also. Like a marsh buggy. Lots of swampy areas where a machine like yours can't go. A lot of stuff down here on marsh tracks..... There's a company not far from me that builds those units...

I was at the Loggers Expo yesterday- lots of talk on how to protect the measuring wheel from getting hammered up. Curious on what you do, if anything. Some have a setting to keep it retracted unless they need it. Others have diverter valves to keep it in until the wheels close.

I have broke the wheel off about 3 times in 8 or 9 years and it’s when you reverse on a log that has a big knot or sheared off limb that catches it. Mine comes out when the wheels close. Quite honestly they are built pretty damn well and can take a lot of abuse.

Kevin Rose this job is mainly blowdowns but we do mostly select cuts here. Take the junky wood and logs out and let the nice trees reseed the forest. Once the regeneration gets a couple feet high we take the rest out.

That makes cutting down trees look easy ! Well easier than holding a saw and doing it. Do you ever metal detect while out there ? What kind of wild life do you encounter? Any bears ? I suppose the loud machine scares of all wild life ? Thanks for sharing, pretty cool :-)

Chocolate Cherry Coins I see lots of deer and turkeys. A bear once in a great while and maybe 2 coyotes since I have been doing it. I actually do detect on some of the jobs if I get time to. I have found lots of axe heads, some old crosscut saws, steel wedges, lots of bullets and some misc stuff. Using the machines sure does make it safer out here. I still have to use the chainsaw once in awhile but only on the really big trees.

@@DimeDigger I think it is a pretty cool job to have, being out there in the woods and seeing animals sometimes. I hope your cabin or what ever they call it, I hope it is heated when it is cold. Just went to detect my favorite park and there were guys in there doing exactly what you do. I will go back again today and see if they are done !

Thank you for taking the time to make this. I’m just starting in a LogMax 6000 ( 13 years on a Rottne head) I’m told a lot of operators don’t use the auto close on the knives. What do you do? Ya or Na?

I’m not sure what you mean with auto close. My left hand trigger is set up to open knives and wheels and close them. Once I fell a tree the top knife sensor tells the knives to pulse open or close tighter as the tree shoots through. The tightness of the knives can be adjusted to prevent excessive wheel spin say if you switch between soft or hardwood. Not sure if I answered your question but have fun out there and stay safe.

@@DimeDigger Yes- thank you Some operators don’t use the top knife sensor. They just keep touching the knife close button. Supposed to be easier for crooked stems to go through. Yours seems do just fine.

@@LGTrees Roger that. On the crooked ones I have my top right hand button set up for all knives pulse open. I hit that right before it gets to the crooks and usually you can get right around them. We cut some pretty crappy hardwood at times so you use that button a lot 👍🏻

LemonHead_Penny probably 80-100 years old. PA was pretty much stripped in the 20’s and 30’s so there are very few trees older than 100.

I usually always run 90 drivers on my logmax, even on the 6000, seems like the longer the bar the more flex they have off the stump they seem to be more forgiving as far as not bending and staying bent,

@@DimeDigger hello, I have run the 96 driver on mine also, I find it hits the sawbox on the back stroke from the wiggle, especially if you run the tops through and cut them in half, have fun

I used to have the same problem on the 6000 head. The slot in the bars would spread where it sits on the holder and I would have that happen.
