This rake doesn't have the fingers like the Ruckus and you could see it had some trouble with grass and larger rocks but i agree it did a heck of a job on gravel.
@phild38922 ай бұрын
When doing existing grass areas you’re supposed to go north/south. East/west. It’ll grind 3” of depth. But when there’s grass you need to go a touch slower to allow it to “pulverize” the areas

Man, That Hydra leaves one of the coolest patterns in the soil I've seen!! Nice...
@Vickie-Bligh7 ай бұрын
As you were using it on the field, my thoughts were that it seemed to do okay when there wasn't much stuff to rake up. It left a nice pattern but wasn't the Ruckus Rake. But then you showed the gravel and that was awesome. I've watched you resurface your parking/turnaround pad & driveway a couple of times. This does look like you laid new gravel and with only a few passes. That's really nice. Thanks for showing us.

Hydra rake come in mighty handy on those gold course pond jobs, golf cart path refresh job. it might not be as efficient as a dedicated power rake for every job/application but those quick refresh jobs it oughta shine. one less step unhooking the smooth bucket, switching over to power rake. real test would be Geoff's 90 acre minefield /rut hell

Mate looks great. An idea for you and the manufacturer. if they installed a flap on the back above the rake, the debris can be flicked into the bucket and dumbed out of the way, when just fluffing close the flat and of you go. The little rows it leaves will be good for when seeding as well.

Its surely not the Rukas Rake nor does it seem to have the power going forward. But I can see when you grade with the bucket forward, a backwards drag with that rake (where it seems to perform best) could speed things up a bit on a prettier final product. It also seems to reveal the low spots much better also.

On the dirt it did alright, left an interesting diagonal pattern that would channel run off alright into washboards at the edge of the field. Gravel looks like it would be a better fit for the bucket. Maybe a good 3/4- would be the largest down to maybe pea gravel or crushed shells. Sand could be a hit or miss though I can see where roughing out topsoil for broadcast seeding or sod laying where the ripples might come in handy. Run over to get the pattern, throw seed and fertilizer, go back 90° to get the seed in. Or with sod, roll across it with no overlap with just the tracks of the skidsteer to get the sod good and pressed in to the fluffed ground. It could be good for quick touchup slicking to a dam face or driveway that you're grading smooth with the skid steer already. Use the rotorake to work out small wash ruts or just break up crust on clay. It's not a super replacement for the rukus rake by a long shot. But it is better than hauling two attachments to do a little clean up work.

As the power rake is under the bucket, it seems you can't watch what it is doing whereas you can with the Ruckus Rake. Larger roots and such has less ability to clear the power rake. All in one has great stone advantages as you say.

And being able to pick up the rocks and sticks at the end of the row will help also.
@shitloveaduck7 ай бұрын
There’s no ability to angle the blade as well. Angling the ruckusallow you to move a lot of dirt around to level out the project and get the debris to one side or the other. They will be distinctly useful. It will be interesting to see which one Chris will use more. Using the ruckus to repurpose gravel driveways was a very large part of the initial advertising on its inception. If you are using a packer as the final part of your gravel restoration work, the bucket part may likely be unnecessary. Time will tell!

@WatcherNine7 ай бұрын
I thought that'd be a great idea at first, but then realized you can't angle it and you can't run it forward to rake if you're going to get a pile of things up from the dirt because the bucket will end up holding the stuff down. Backward it seems fine because it's open, but overall I'd pass on it. I have a bucket that looks exactly like that ("badass buckets") and it's great for grading, but don't have the rake on it. I have a Harley rake to drag behind my tractor for raking. But.....toys! 😀

At first I thought the rocks in the dirt were causing it to bind up, but after see it work the gravel driveway I think it was just the combo of the weeds AND rocks clumping and causing the binding. Still, next models might make the gap around the rotor a bit bigger to reduce that.

@TrevorDennis1007 ай бұрын
Chris, is there a risk that if you raise the bucket while the rake it still spinning, that it could fire debris back at you? I don't know what way it spins. If it is switched electrically, they should be able to work out an interlock that switches the rake off when the boom is raised.
@cmpattachmentsllc7 ай бұрын
It's bidirectional, and momentary unless you use your machine's lock-on feature, so you can easily let off the controls when lifting the boom-- we always want to prioritize safety 👍
@davidepool58847 ай бұрын
That new bucket is going to be a game changer. No more hauling the ruckus rake around for smaller jobs and it will save you time switching between attachments. I don’t think it will be the perfect attachment for raking roots and big rocks but on clean ground and driveways it works amazingly well. I was surprised by the pattern it leaves on the ground. All these tools are nice to use. Another one to consider is the ABI SR3. I use it to prep an area as well as a finish tool. Strong as a bull! Less moving parts. Hogs dirt and rips roots out. Also works well to break up frozen gravel on an icy driveway in Wisconsin. It is used to cleanup an area after dropping trees and pulling stumps with an excavator by moving both forward and back moving debris to a spoil pile and then breaking up the soil and smoothing the site in prep for seed. Does the same for food plots and cleaning up and shaping a site after other contractors do their thing! No - I do not work for ABI ! 👍
