1:55 so, in other words: it is mathematically better for the whole team if you only inflict severe damage to a vehicle, and let a teammate finish it off and you in turn finish off the vehicle someone else inflicted severe damage on.

However it's practically impossible to only do severe damage beyond 5.0 since cannons will usually insta kill or do so little damage that the aircraft is practically fine (so no reward). + That's how it already works with kill assists, with severe damage the margin is just alot smaller.

@@cookiecraze1310 Not sure about the mid tiers, but in my time in high tier it'll for sure do work. That happens quite a bit at top tier with missiles, enemy loses an elevator, engine or wing but isn't "dead". In the few test runs I did, all of the times where I got a hit that wasn't a kill with a missile, I immediately got a "Severe Damage" notification and was very pleased with that. Still need to test more, but so far I'm liking it. At least in high/top tier, this is greatly appreciated. People are also noting it's currently more generous than the dev blog states, IE dev blog says taking out all engines on a jet is severe, but people are reporting it only on disabling 1 engine, or even they just black out sections of the plane. It might not be as hard to achieve as it seems, though they could very well tune it back to how it's stated in the dev block.

@@GuardianOne24 Severe damage is a step towards counting a kill, the only "but" being the enemy repairing. And by the end of the battle if there are severely damaged enemies remaining, they'll be counted as kills automatically

It would if the enemy fails to repair before the match ends. If a teammate finishes off the target, you then get kill credit. If you finish them off, you get kill credit. So it should work for tasks and all that unless the enemy manages to make it to safety. You just wouldn’t bump up to the next skill level until the very end of the match when critical damage turns to kills.

I think if this mechanic is done well and thoroughly and the community is positive this one change can snowball into a much more rewarding and fair game, where teamwork is more rewarded

This is huge for top tier air rb. Should promote better team play aswell and not eveyone going for easy kill steals (and the one getting kill stolen having to finish the job so no one steals the kill)

I’ll be happy getting even most or majority of a kill for severe damage. Even now, unless I spend 6 minutes energy fighting someone down from 7,000m, I usually don’t mind someone cleaning up a kill. I just hate it when I spend 3/4 of the match defending and reversing people, just for some dude to shoot him as he’s stalled out in my guns or something. Or I’ll crit someone, and he’s on fire or spewing black smoke, and then 8 missiles come from behind me, 3 of them hitting me. That’s the kinda shit that drives me up a fuckin’ wall.

Works well, but in my first game i had my wingspars crit, last enemy then got killed and the tickets counted down. I flew around fine, but got forcefully ejected and marked as killed. Seems kind of stupid that i could have just repaired if the last guy stayed alive, which wouldn't have given me a death. I think that the winning team shouldn't have this forced ejection, to make it a bit less frustrating and to simulate you going back to base after a succesful operation

I do disagree with forced ejection. Imo if you make it back, and land without knocking out your pilot, then you should be able to rep. Idc if you land upside down or with no wings, if you can fly it home, you should be able to rep it.

Or at least it should be factored into the after match repair cost. Ie: one broken aileron shouldn’t cost as much as the entire aircraft exploded

These kind of scenarios are exactly what came to mind when I saw this change. Forcing the player to eject regardless of the circumstances has always been stupid, especially since saving the pilot counts for nothing in this game and just maxes out your repair cost. In terms of the ticket countdown treating severely damaged players as already dead, I think this will really ruin late-game showdowns where few players are left in the match, or it may even be a 1v1, by ending the match prematurely due to "severe damage" when they are still able and willing to keep fighting.

It just looks like an intermediary between "Critical Hit" & "Aircraft Destroyed". I do appreciate that they're doing *something* to combat killsteals, but like you said, Gaijin is being very conservative about these changes. I would have much preferred an "assist counts as kill" mechanic like they have in the Battlefield games.

On one hand I agree… but that would incentivize people to clump up and all spray at the same plane (like they already do) instead of going to find one that will give more reward. Imo anything that incentivizes proper play is a net benefit

They have done just the opposite with ground forces they removed a lot of damage points and credits. Indeed, You can destroy a track or you can kill a crew member and get absolutely no credit for that. To the point now it is better to simply put a scout recon Chevron on an enemy vehicle and collect the points if someone else kills them, than for you to take the risk of shooting at him. And not getting any points for damage you may or may not Cause. 2:14

This will definitely help with a more teamwork oriented mindset. Some people only care about getting their own kills. Now it’s easier, and finishing off an opponent benefits both parties.

Yesterday I crited a mig29 and it was in a flat spin and on fire. My team mate kept flying around it trying to steal the kill missing several passes and ended up dying to another enemy lol. This should help ease the pain of kill stealing.

Reminds me of the "Assist counts as Kill" mechanic from Battlefield 4 Except in BF4 both players got 100% for the kill

So if I have read this correctly, could the teams just damage eachother get the severe damage reward, go back repair and do again? Just farm the mechanic becuase you only get 1 destruction (100%) but you can get multiple damaged (80%) from the same target. I don't know but either way it looks like a good change.

After successfully repairing an aircraft with severe damage at an airfield, the player who caused the severe damage will have this severe damage subtracted from their statistics (the issued reward will not be taken away).

Well you already could do that since breaking wings on a certain jets are considered as destruction even if it doesn't actually demolish its ability to fly, so it was actually the 100% cut down to 80%

Yes, I think that's right, but honestly I don't know how much more effective that could be than just killing someone and then groundpounding, (especially because it isn't so easy to deliberately do severe damage but not kill) so I don't think it will see much popularity as a grinding gimmick. Overall, I think its positive effect on reducing killstealing will be more impactful than this cheese, but I guess we'll have to see

This sounds like it would be decent if implemented properly. Whenever I play Air Arcade, I generally set a lot of opponents up so that I can cripple them. Then go off to kill another and have a friendly take out the crippled aircraft. Its essentially "assist counts as kill"

Let’s see how this change works. Sounds good on paper. Noticing more players recently not honoring fires at all. I’m all for this. 80% is more than an assist. The problem is that 100% doesn’t even pay for one 6 minute death. Rushing in for quick kills is incentivized.

I like it, but as a bomber pilot (yes we exist, no we don't have any SL), I regularly finish a match with severe damage. I think tying up multiple enemy planes and wobbling away back to base should be rewarded even if i can't really land it. But if I'm having to pay the full repair cost and having a death added anyway, then there's no point continuing to play and i might as well just bail out. Except now any planes that were trying to finish me off are now free to pursue my teammates instead; so arguably keeping my hulk in the sky for a bit is a great idea since i keep a baddie or two distracted with my big juicy round and curvy bomber butt. Surely they could just do a better job kicking bots and AFK players from matches

Now we just need rewards for maneuver kills and maybe some kinda assist for setting up a kill for a teammate. It's kinda annoying that you can do 95% of the work towards a kill (bait, setup, energy drain etc.), but because you aren't the one pulling the trigger, you get nothing

As long as you shot them prior it still counts as an assist If they are severely damaged and then you start shooting It's a finish off

sooooooo, the same as a critical hit but whoever kills gets less reward, unless you just kill them for full points, which you should anyways. The only gain here seems to be rewarding a kill at the end of the match to criticaled aircraft

Being honest, not a fan of this new mechanic. And hoping it doesn’t actually get added. At least not in this form. If the split was 90/10 or 95/5. The point is to address kill stealing. Knowing you will only get 5% of the reward will do more than this to address that. But without fully dynamic repair costs, you are forcing players to take a full repair bill if they are severely damaged but aren’t finished and still survive. And a death on their stat card. For those without premium time is getting screwed over even more so. At this point, just mark a severely damaged as a kill and give out the full award and give the finisher an assist award.

What are your thoughts on custom ammo belts for planes and ground autocannons? Like the custom weapon loadouts but for ammo belts, and as for ideas for possible content, how about you try a game that is not war thunder? If you like cars you can try a goofy ass car game called "the long drive" there's no real goal in that game, so a goal could be too fix up a car to be like new, and if you like lego-like/building games stuff there's brick rigs, some of the community is a bit cursed, but it's a good game I have been playing a lot of, I like building tanks in it in real interiors, there's also flyout that has recently been released, I know you like planes, so I suggest you could give that a try, anyway ash, good night and look after yourself, get yourself sorted and I look forward to any updates for your channel, and I have a lot more games suggestions that you may enjoy.

@@HziesThat’s not how it works. Almost all Aircraft cannons always fired both AP rounds and explosive rounds at enemy aircraft. A mix of AP and HE is the ideal combination of shells and would result in greater damage than just firing one type of ammo. Just how AP can just pass through through a plane without dealing any critical damage, the damage from explosive rounds also greatly varies based on the impact area. If HE rounds alone are better in getting kills than mixed belts, than there’s a problem with the game and damage of other shell types.

Gaijin's description was more in line with a normal kill but in the event it's like a critical hit or in-between a critical hit and a kill. Gaijin can change the threshold for severe damage at any time.

Hopefully this will reduce the team killing at top tier seeing as SL is not the problem for most but RP is. if I got a quarter for every single time i got team killed by a salty mf because my missile hit a second earlier than his, I would be rich.

Sounds like a great change actually! But you know what would be a better change? Concentrate on your health and worry about 100K afterwards. It won't do anybody any good, certainly not you, if you take severe damage. I don't know what your physical limitations are, but push them whatever they are, get yourself as much exercise and stretching, good food, fresh air...... And stick around a little while! Cheers mate, you make great content.

Severe damage for tanks should exist, but provide like 50 or 60% if you knock out the majority of the crew + breech or turret ring.

Why overcomplicate what wasn't broken? This will backfire 100%. Gaijin tries tinkering with frag registration every 2-3 years and it always messes it up.

so no more "WTF!!! i could have flown that back to base and repaired.... but it started a 10 second countdown" . because i have landed an F86 saber with only half its tail and no rudder before.... several times.... in DCS and when the same happens in WT.... i get a 10 second counter.... and then die.... after i stabilized the jet lol

Next up: removing repair costs If people wanna get better they’ll get better, all repair costs do is just make dying without kills/getting gaijin’d more frustrating

This is a good idea, but I think its over complicated and incentivises kill stealing. Why not just add much higher rewards for hits, critical hits and assists?

I like how gaijin is doing everything they can but make a new game modes, i've been sober from warthunder for 3 years now and i can say that then and now the game didnt change much except theres jets and modern tanks now while everything is still basically the same

Theoretically it sounds good, but it is only me or did critical hits get a lot harder to score? I played several matches with planes with American 50 cals and barely got an criticals. It really feels like they reduced the chance to score them a lot.

Maybe this will get rid of the extremely salty teamkillers which cry after their kill has been "stolen". But doubt it.
