On todays trip the main goal wast to test out the new motor. So far the setup is working great and i'm still fine tuning it the more i test it out. Along the way we do some drifts along the bottom as well a some structure fishing by the bridges.

Woah I take my watersnake motor at 4-4.5mph and that thing weighs like 5lbs idk if a 30lb motor is really worth carrying around for just 2-2.5 mph faster… this is a cool idea though! Fun video!

The gas power allows me to have further trips over multiple days when I don’t have access to a power outlet. electric is great though

@Hideshi Izu ... I was checking watersnake 34 lbs thrust. It mentions 19.71 lbs weight in amazon. If i add 24 lbs for battery then it will be arround 44 lbs for total setup. Compare to that honda 31 lbs sound better. Are you sure watersnake weight only 5 lbs ?

There’s another youtuber from Puerto Rico with a Yamaha OB motor, he has double ama floats on the side where the motor is located to add more bouncy.

20 because i got a good deal 0n it, but i think 15 is preferable and is all you probably need for a kayak

Hello Funky Fishing! I am thinking of getting the ePropulsion Spirit Plus for my Outback but that motor and battery weights 45 Lbs. Will that cause too much of a weight shift to one side.? I will also use the Spring Creek stabilizing floats and motor mount.

i have the spring creek outriggers myself - and recently just upgraded to the honda 2.3hp....its perfect together - the motor mount for the spring creek outriggers is rated for up to 3hp.

@@JoseRivera-tl2dy Jose, is your Kayak a Hobie Outback? How fast can you troll (MPH) with your Honda motor? Does the weight of your Honda engine have you list very far to the side it is mounted on? Thank you for bearing with these several questions.

@@Mrkellywilliamson hello my friend. Indeed I not only have one, but two outbacks lol I have 2 gas motors (including the honda) and a 46lb newport vessels motor with a 100ah lithium battery. The spring creek outriggers with motor mount are like tailor made for the Honda!!!!! you lean a bit, but can easily be compensated with just a shift of the body and the outriggers likewise compensate and keep you stable. They are an interchangeable system....as far as speed, this is my other motor (its close to what the honda gets) kzbin.infosgK4ujBXl0I

@@JoseRivera-tl2dy Jose, thank you soooo much for your in-depth response. I love Honda motors, as I have driven 3 Honda CRV's and now have a 2017 Ridgeline. But I will not get a Honda gas motor for my Outback. It's gotta be electric. Unless you tell me you totally crazy in love with your 46 Lb Newport, I will go with the ePropulsion Spirit Plus 1.0 for $2,499.00.

Many of my friends use electric motors and they have there advantages, For me i sometimes take trips out of state with my kayak. The gas motor is one way i ensure i can get gas at any gas station quickly. Charging batteries for 6 hours plus was not an option for me. In terms of the weight on one side i only have used the honda which is 30pounds and with the single outrigger it keeps it straight enough to be comfortable although there is a slight lean that is easily corrected with your bodyweight. Just as another option some of my friends use a tourqeedo which is in the same price range as the epropulsion motor they enjoy it.

oh heck yea man, nice job! did it top out at like 5-6mph? That's awesome, looks pretty secure with your bracket, nicely done. Do you know about how much gas it took for how long you ran it? Sorry for all the questions but I'm super curious. Beauty of a weakfish too!
@FunkyFishingTV
@FunkyFishingTV 2 жыл бұрын
The kayak did 5mph against the current and up to 7mph with the current. The "Honda people" say it does 45 minutes at full throttle on one tank which seems accurate to me but I need more time with it. I mostly use half throttle because the difference between half and full throttle is .5mph when side mounted it seems. The difference in noise from half to full throttle isn't worth the added speed. The tank is .25liters and I carry a gallon with me so in theory I have roughly 20 miles of motoring with a gallon but I have only gone maybe 7-8 miles in a day so far. Its a much welcomed addition to the kayak! My PB Weakfish so far !
@PeterRanieriII
@PeterRanieriII 2 жыл бұрын
@@FunkyFishingTV Congrats on the PB weakie! Wow man, that's amazing. thanks for all the info. From the research I've done on putting motors on the kayak, once you get above 5 or 6mph it takes so much more power to get higher speeds that it's rarely worth it, even if the motor is rear mounted. But that's still really good if you go 4mph at half throttle and in theory, get somewhere around 20mi of range on one gallon of gas (this could be better since you are not at full throttle too). So the noise is loud but not unbearable? I'm tempted to put another electric trolling motor on the other side of my kayak and do an outrigger system for some stability and buoyancy. I don't see many people on youtube doing dual side-mounted motors...
@FunkyFishingTV
@FunkyFishingTV 2 жыл бұрын
@@PeterRanieriII it’s very bearable at a quarter and half throttle which gets you to 4-5mph and still technically bearable at full throttle just not worth the added noise for the amount of speed gained.

Hello my friend...I have a prospect of landing a new honda 2.3hp....I'm getting about 5 to 6mph top speed on my 2 stroke now on the outback. What are you getting on the honda? I also get about one mile or 20 mins of full throttle time...honda gets about 1 hour right?
@FunkyFishingTV
@FunkyFishingTV 2 жыл бұрын
In terms of the speed getting past 6mph, i was told once(i should research further) the actual design of the kayak limits it from going to fast. we would need a wing on the bottom ( i forgot what its called) to keep the kayak stable . With the 2.3 honda my max is also around 6mph but its tricky for me to control at that speed so i usually end up cruising at 4 and only do 6 if im in a rush. The Honda gets about 40 minutes at full throttle but i never use full throttle. The noise difference isnt worth the extra .5 mph for me.
@JoseRivera-tl2dy
@JoseRivera-tl2dy 2 жыл бұрын
@@FunkyFishingTV that makes sense - we would need a skeg to keep the kayak true....you can actually recreate that by putting down the mirage drive (I have ST fins) straight down...keeps it stable. I also have the spring creek outriggers which keep me leveled. I have been experiencing the same speed with my current motor - top out at 6-7mph with current. But normally stay at about 5mph. The big advange with your engine vs mine is the range - 40 mins full throttle vs my 25 mins.....I can get about 2.5 miles in a full gallon - whereas you probably get about 7 I calculate. Good stuff my brotha..thank you!

If you put the other side kick on would it be stable enough to stand and cast? Do side kicks add noticeable stability?
@FunkyFishingTV
@FunkyFishingTV 2 жыл бұрын
The 2020 Hobie Outback Kayak without any side kicks is stable enough to stand and cast from in calm water. It does take some balancing but is easy to do after getting used to it. With one added sidekick it becomes very stable you just need to lean towards the side that has the arm attached when you are balancing which makes it super easy. The more arms the more stability you will get. Have fun out there!!
@ninja636stunta
@ninja636stunta 2 жыл бұрын
@@FunkyFishingTV Do you think with both side arms it’s about the same as a PA? I’m doing musky fishing so not sure if I should get outback with side arms or PA 14. I like the outback because you can paddle better.
@FunkyFishingTV
@FunkyFishingTV 2 жыл бұрын
@@ninja636stunta I have used a PA before and it’s super stable and it feels like your almost on a boat. However it’s a lot heavier than the outback. I can lift the outback to move around, with the PA it’s very difficult to transport unless you have a trailer or a pick up or a special system to load it on top of your car. I would stick with the outback just because it’s so much easier to transport and it is more agile in the water . which is a big deal for my kind of kayak fishing.
