Hey Keith! Yeah I'm really happy with these as a recording kit or gigging kit alike and love the finish like you point out. At this price point I don't mind taking them out to gig at all and can save my vintage kits on wear and tear. I liked the snare at first, but have since gone back to some of my other tried and true snares. Either way I am happy I got them when I did!

i have the exact set same color i just replaced the snare to a black panther i was always stuck on rogers for the last 35 years a young girl at the guitar center told me about her set but different color so she let me play hers i didn't know what i was missing. so i went on line and a guitar center had a new set that a guy cancelled i brought it home AND WOW ITS LIKE HAVING A SET OF CANNONS

I have no basis to compare. I've not played the Pearl. Im sure both are great. I just wanted something reasonably priced and loved these mapex finishes.
