Taras Kul's MRE videos show that some armies of the world have adopted a, "partial" MRE. The field ration comes in an MRE-like plastic polymer bag. But the contents show a mix of MRE-type items and off-the-shelf canned food items. This greatly reduces costs for smaller armies on a tight military budget. Ironically these small army MREs come with a useful, stamped aluminum reusable stove with Hexamine fuel tabs and matches. Military rations in the 20th century typically relied on canned food items, even the U.S. Army C ration of the Vietnam War.
