Just so you know, the notes in the smoke alarm isn’t always a perfect g or g# it sometimes is g half sharp or g 3/4 sharp like make 38 to 50 cents above or below tuning

The notes in smoke detectors aren’t always the exact notes in 12 tet or edo tuning we use there can be notes that are actually in between called microtonal. Most popular ones are 24tet or quarter tone

I have a question I have been trying to get to the bottom of. When I was a kid and lived in Syracuse, UT we had smoke alarms that looked identical to Firex, but they sounded like fire alarms like the steady buzz sound. What were those things? They were interconnected too we had one in the basement and one upstairs.

Smoke alarms contain americium 241 which produces radioactive alpha rays in an ionization chamber which triggers the alarm when smoke is present. Lol that's a lot of americium!

Yeah I learned the hard way about First Alert’s flashlight test feature. I was like 5. 6am snow day. No, "The Radioactive Boy Scout" as he was known (who was *not* German) was pretty much insane attempting to build a nuclear reactor, while S.E.R. Safety is much more rational & sensible. The latter doesn't collect smoke detectors because of the radiation in them (which only ionization detectors have), he collects them because he finds them interesting.

Dland SMK Dual sensor smoke alarms have both sensing technologies. Photoelectric smoke alarms respond quickly to smoldering fires. Ionization smoke alarms respond to fast flaming fires. Dual-sensor smoke alarms respond quickly to both types of fire.
