Thanks for the review. And yep wanting but think I'll pass no IS and don't understand why it is $200 more then the Exact version of Sony version? As really wanting to like this lens. Biggest complaint is feeling like being taken for $200 compared to the Sony mirrorless version.

Great review - have you compared it with the Nikon 70-300 AFP on the FTZ - I have this lens and not sure if I should replace with the Tamron?

for the price, great. My goto remains the z24-120mm f4 and I still love the z70-200mm f2.8

Useful video but I would have liked you to discuss how this lens compares with the 24-200 another small travel zoom lens made by Nikon?

How does it compare to Nikon AFP 70-300 4.5-5.6 ED VR lens via FTZ in terms of autofocus and rendering?
@jamespkuzman2 жыл бұрын
One of my only two disappointments with the Z system is that Nikon hasn’t made a native 70-200 or 70-300 f/4 (the other is the plastic lens mount on the 28mm f/2.8). I bought the 70-300 AFP F mount last year and it works very well, especially for the price. If I had the choice between that lens and the Tamron today, I’m honestly not sure which I would pick.

No lens maker should be offering lenses with plastic mounts in 2022. If the Chinese lens makers like TTArtisan and Meike can build all metal lenses, the very least CaNikon can do is cut the plastic mount nonsense.

I have been very impressed with the Tamron Zooms for Nikon - for my Nikon Z50 I have been using the Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 DI-II VC HLD All-In-One Zoom For Nikon APS-C, and with build-in vibration control it works well as a one lens/one camera set-up. You do need the FTZ adapter to use which adds some weight to it. I'd like to see more options on the Z-mount side.

I purchased the Nikon AF-P 70-300 f4-5.6 ED for $549 -- better image quality, faster focus, and faster aperture. And at $549 new, its cheaper to boot. I am quite not sure why any one would buy this lens?

Great lens, I have been using it for about 1 month on z7ii and it is very sharp, I sold my 24-200 a while ago, because I was not pleased with the sharpness. Idea for my walk around and travel lens

Tamron had a F-mount 70-300 f.4-5,6 with close focusing 0,95m at the 300mm end. Is this the same lens, and what happend with the f. 4,5- 6,3?

Very nice, but it would be even better, if you display the lens setting. But the lens is impressive.

I guess I’m wondering how it compares to the 70-200 afs f4. Not taking into consideration the extra reach of the tamron.

You can buy USB-C "plugs" inexpensively. If I owned this lens I'd get some and do it that way.

I wish Nikon made one but this filled a gap for me. I have 70-200 and 100-400 but I was adapting the F-mount for travel. As Kon said, the weight and size mean it's great for travel when you want longer than 70/120/200 just in case. I was pleasantly surprised that IBIS works well enough to handhold at any shutter speed I would use this. It's weaker at the wide end but that suits me. One of a few compromises, hopefully one day Nikon bring out something like the F-mount.

At that price point, might as well get the Z 24-200mm, especially when it's on sale.

Great images! They dropped the ball leaving that port open. Definitely a lens to look at for travel paired with the 24-70 f/4S lens. Thanks for sharing with us! I always look forward to seeing new videos from you both!!

Shame about the port but guess a little electrical tape would do the trick. When I had my tamron f mount lenses they had a docking station for the updates! Kon, don’t change we love you just the way you are 👍

I think it would be better than using the F-mount 70mm-300mm Nikon lens with FTZ adapter.
@dominiclester32322 жыл бұрын
Another nice video, thanks! Obviously there was a demand for this lens (in Z land) but Nikon “let” Tamron make it with conditions...no VR, smaller aperture at 300mm, exposed USB port, similar price to Nikkor F version. It looks great but since I only bought the F version (AF-P from Grays) only 3 years ago, I will stick to the stabilised version (plus FTZ).

A bit of Gaffer Tape will solve the open USB Port.

The results look good, but gee! That exposed USB port is begging for some seal! I mean, even Viltrox lenses in which the USB post is exposed have it at least on the side of the mount mouth so at least it's not exposed to the elements! What was Tamron thinking!

The opening shot makes me sick, tbh. Why is everyone so obsessed sticking with legacy 24fps, and then panning too fast for that?
