11:00 It uses ground to start. The 12V you measure is going directly thru the starter relais. The same as old school headlight switch. There is continuous 12V on the bulb but it won't light up because the other side is not connected to ground because of the switch. If you measure on the switch side (light off), you also get 12V (the light acts as a normal wire with your multimeter).
@nickburns2034 Жыл бұрын
I was coming to say the same thing... The 12V is coming though the starter windings and only starts spinning once there is a difference in potential on either side. So grounding the wire gives 0v and 12v so spinny things happen :)
@jonesy2009 Жыл бұрын

I can see this becoming one of your most Iconic builds ever, just cause you'll probably get the most use out of it. I'd say give it the full strength and paint treatment, and maybe add a few more creature comforts and such to make it the ultimate grind hard utility vehicle. Also, there's a ton a of space between the front and rear wheels for a toolbox or something while your making the skid plates.

In America we have always switched the hot's (switch leg wires that operate a component, ie. your starter relay that operates the starter motor) going to things like starter relays or solenoids, etc., any limit switch or device designed to interrupt that circuit would have the 'starting circuit' passing through them or a relay they control that either qualifies or inhibits that circuit logic (look up 'ladder diagrams' & see the actual positioning of the circuit components, 'Old'Skool stuff here, I'm 73). ... In Japan, for instance, they send the hot wires to all the electro-mechanical devices and they switch the grounded side of those components (the very last wire in that part of the logic or ladder diagram circuit). I never knew the reasoning for this but, like you...I had to adapt...it is not difficult once you understand. Here in America we 'used' to have the 'American National Standards Institute-ANSI' that standardized wiring symbols, practices etc. ... they kept everything sorted out... in the rest of the world, especially the far East, they do whatever they like, ship it here, place a usually 'fraudulent UL sticker' on it and got by with it, even to this day! (Check the UL listing on your TIG, you probably won't find it actually listed but the symbol is there to fool us dummies!) Hope this helps a little...charlie 👈😎👍

Garage Products made bushings which have lasted 5 times longer than the orginals and counting. I went with the SuperATV upgraded cast front differential as the full billet one was trick, but out of my budget. I am very happy with the upgraded diff, and I would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their non-repairable stock front diff. Hopefully, yours is repairable and just broke the plastic sprage cage and didn't take out the electromagnet, which engages it. I was not so fortunate

The 12 volt you are getting at the key switch is run through a magnetic coil for the solenoid. It always has power to it and when you turn the key to the start position it throws ground to the solenoid the cranks the engine. 10:57 A solenoid works by a small 12v low amperage line controlled by the key supplying power to that cylinder when the key is turned. Once low amperage is applied, the coil inside becomes an electromagnet and pushes or pulls contacts for much larger amperage lines together. It has 12v because its a normally closed switch. Ground the 12v makes the electromagnet de-magnetize so a spring can push the contacts together. Normally open switches are the opposite. Detroit Enginerd Registered White Guy # 8.
