Hey Dave, I love your videos, I hope you make many more. I AM worried about that shortness of breath, brother. Stay well, keep smilin' and play radio.

I concur, that's a telltale sign of underlying issues; Dr. would prescribe 150 minutes of level 2 cardio per week + 3x weekly resistance training to increase base metabolic rate... Motion is medicine... Use it or lose it.

Good demo, Dave. I like your rule: "With antennas, everything affects everything". Software is like that - I think of it as a big net full of fish. Change one line and it's like snipping one string and everything moves!

Thanks Dave. Glad you have your channel is back. I have this antenna and I found that it did not have a weep whole and the humidity got to it. Great kit but I would suggest a weep hole.

Likewise my first HF antenna. Still don't have it permanently up but got one end out to a nearby tree. Good results on the 40/20/15/10m bands and found it will tune on 17m. Wound up taking nearly 6' off. Having a ball w/FT8 and FT4.

Great video. I bought that antenna when I first started. I had to shorten it some for sure!

I am looking forward to the results! It is still a little too chilly here for me to have tried the experiment (using the cap in the middle of the 80M antenna) that you suggested, but I'll get there. Will also be using a ~95' EFHW for the Armed Forces Day Crossband Test (13 May 2023) on 60M. Be safe!

Very interesting video Dave. I just built that same antenna and have been listening to hf until I can pass my general test. My SWR was very close to yours without any tuning. I put a tuner in line and got the SWR’s all down to around 1.2 to 1.

I built my ARRL EFHW last December. I haven't gotten around to properly testing it or putting it on the air yet. I plan to use it this year on Field Day.

I had to lower my feed point to bring the swr down. and got it down to a 1.1 to a 1.5 on most bands.

@@davecasler…you are at altitude as well, that does not help for asthma. Great video, studying installation videos as I am considering purchasing a 20 meter end-fed (want 40 multi-band but cannot due to space restrictions); this to augment my Comet CHA-250 HD vertical, end-fed should be better for Europe DX (I am in Florida). We’ve been waiting all winter to find the right time to do our antenna work. It seems when we have time, it’s either rainy and cold or the wind is blowing 70mph.

Hi Dave, Another fine testing video. May I suggest, since the trouble you had with your channel, you mention in the description below the title when the video was made. Your videos are now all out of order. Getting a notification of a new video upload is somewhat useless when you are uploading older videos to the channel. You and Loretta stay safe. 73 WJ3U

Is there a way to measure impedance EFHW? Given that no transformer is between the TX/RX and the EFHW?
@NgakpaW Жыл бұрын
I am confused by the question. There is a 49:1 transformer (un-un) between the coax and antenna.
@geirha75 Жыл бұрын
@@NgakpaW Let me clarify. Imagine having no un-un or transformer between efhw and tx/tx ( test only setup ). We know that 50 ohm does not match efhw impedance. And we know the impedance skyrockets when we feed dipole antenna from one end. But is there a way to measure it's impedance at the end? How much is it in real time/real life? By measuring it.
@tmiller9099 Жыл бұрын
Couldn't you measure the impedence with the 49:1 inline and then multiply your reading by 49 to calculate what the impedence is on the antenna side?

Nice job, I have mine from ARRL sitting in the order que. waiting to pull the trigger. But I don’t have a lot of space , so it might be just a field antenna. All the best and good health. KN6JHC
