This was actually my introduction to spray painting, hooked it up to a basic compressor. It works well if you do some detailing work, do not recommend for entire models, it's too finicky for that.

Nice to see the Ak real color paints. I like them a lot my self and they are acrylic lacquers like Tamiya and Aqueous and AK says you can mix these togheter so they should be compatible. I have not tried it myself, yet I have tried it with Tamiya lacquer thinner with retarder and it worked good, also with their own thinner.

Have one of these but it’s a cheap $10 ebay copy. Works ok once you get the pressure up. Main intention was to use it for illustration when sketching concepts with markers - pantone had a similar system in the 90’s. Shame most markers these days are moving away from a round barrel. Thread on the ebay version is same as iwata which lets me use a quick connect.

I wonder how it would work with Molotow Chrome or any of their markers? Any way thanks for another terrific test video.

For the constant adjusting i would maybe try using like a velcro on where the marker goes in tonhold them together and also on the markers to hold em together and in place

What would be the psi equivalent of that air can? I'm curious to see how it would do connected to the compressor. Also, do you think maybe Dspiae paint markers could work? Or maybe Posca acrylic markers?
@barbatosrex94732 жыл бұрын
About 15 psi
@Hourai2 жыл бұрын
I tried these before and I had three real problems with them that made it so I probably wouldn't use them again for anything serious. First, they require a lot of repriming and nub re-positioning to work well, which ends up wasting a good amount of ink. Second (which is really two issues but they're kinda related), the paint is super weak, so it's easy to accidentally rub off, and you can't really do any panel lining with it since you'll either melt the paint (with Tamiya enamel panel liner) or just physically rub the paint off when you're doing cleanup (with a water based panel liner).
@eugeniahawkins47472 жыл бұрын
Couldn't you just apply a clear coat to protect the paint before panel lining?
@Hourai2 жыл бұрын
@@eugeniahawkins4747 Yes, but if I did that I'd want to do it in lacquer and that isn't possible for me right now because I live in an apartment, so I have nowhere I can airbrush lacquer safely. Also, doing that kind of defeats the purpose of even using the marker airbrush in the first place since if I was able to do lacquer painting I'd just start with that instead of bothering with the markers.
@seanscrafts2 жыл бұрын
Hey Barbatos Rex! Off topic, but do you know what the difference between airbrush thinner and airbrush reducer is?
@barbatosrex94732 жыл бұрын
Paint types that are applied to thinners and reducers differ greatly. A thinner is a lacquer-based paint. urethane-based paints are made with reducers. If the paint is enamel-based, you should use a reducer instead of a thinner

The quality of those metallic looks really great on camera! Like that chrome at 21:49! How does it compare to alclad metallic? I'm currently using Vallejo for metal Colors but when thinly sprayed they look really "grainy". Might change to gundam marker if they are actually similar price
@statoilbensin21902 жыл бұрын
I got athleast one bottel of Vallejo metal color and it sprays fine and selflevels good if you spray it the right way. I think you dont need more than 10 to 15 psi as it is wery thinn in consistensy. You need to just spray a tiny coat then let that one dry, then a new wery light coat. Waterbased paints easily becomes grindy if you dont spray light coats at the time. It might also be that you got dust on the model, in youre airbrush, in the paint or dust in the air that gets sprayed onto the pice.

Good for a pinch but not practical use in the long run like a quick touch up of a show piece and you don't have your airbrush.

I found that only true paint markers work and it’s a certain size to fit into the airbrush. I made the mistake of buying some paint markers (less expensive) the diameter wax close but not enough. In addition, it’s designed for small up close work you can get away without using a paint booth

Looks like a decent transition from markers and/or hand painting and into airbrushing. I personally wouldn't use this, especially since I'm already in the airbrushing territory (though, I still consider myself a novice). As commented in the video, it would be great for a High Grade Gunpla (or maybe even Entry Grade), but I think anything higher would just push your patience too much. If you did use this as transition, use a few cans of the air, but then get a compressor. After that, get a beginner level (real) airbrush and work yourself up to a better airbrush. My opinion, of course.
