it's apparent from all you videos that you're super knowledgeable about things concerning your hobby and I think it's great that you're willing to share that knowledge in an easily approachable but still informational way

re the gear change. The return spring in the gear box is designed to centre a motor cycle 100gram 15cm gear leaver. In your car you will have a two long cables and a remote gear leaver to deal with. The remote leaver will need 2 centring springs. When working correctly, you pull back on an up change and let go, then pull again for the next up change. Lubricate the internals of the cables with ATF or light oil. Snip the corner out of a plastic bag, insert cable end, tape up so no leaks, fill bag with 200ml ATF and hang bag and cable somewhere it can drip overnight. Cables should offer little or no resistance when pushed or pulled. Replace cables if you cant achieve by oiling. When you get it right you will be able to do clutchless up and down changes with appropriate slight blip of the throttle. The clutch I would first try just replacing the frictions and steels with fresh OEM or std aftermarket plates and heavy duty springs. This won't cost much at all. Bikes fry clutches all the time and there are heaps of after market options.

Thanks James. My car has no cables but solid rods and bars for shifting... But I will look into it....meanwhile I got a 20% stronger clutch and springs..

I would change out all the suspension joints that are the same type as the one that broke. They may have been stressed at some time in their past.

Thank you , and indeed as I found out from the comments , these that are fitted are as it seems not for racing. They have been on it and looked good so , I kept them.Now we will change them

high quality content as usually I don't think it's a weight problem because the engine delivers the same torque regardless of the weight unless it loses traction, of course with the bike max torque can be applied for shorter periods of time because of necessary throttle modulation and faster shift intervals. if the shifter operates like you described I wonder how would bikers use it? is it the gravity of the shift lever helping the mechanism settle down? you could add a small spring for that I guess
@D3Sshooter5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comments, you are right as the torque of the engine itself has not changed. However the mass to propel is bigger ( race car versus bike weight), hence the clutsch plates are more loaded ... I have already found new clutch plates and stronger clutch springs with 15-20% increase in clutch coupling capacity.. So that should do the job..

Great video and nice to see your analysis and development of the car. It would be interesting to look at the fracture surface on that joint. Looks like some fatigue cracking was there. Definitely worth checking the other joints on the car to see if they have started to crack too. Also, if you drove far with the joint broken, did it put extra stress on the other joints on that wishbone and links?

Interesting as always, thank you. Do you find people are a bit daft as spectators around the track and paddock? As in not looking out for cars. Whenever I have been at a track I am always super aware of cars moving around and staying out of the way but see so many people apparently oblivious!

F1000 (?) should be much faster than FF. More HP and wings with the same weight.
@D3Sshooter5 ай бұрын
Yes , it should however there a few things that make it not as good, especially in this case: Slipping clutch under fast acceleration, at high gears and at high RPM's -> Typical problem with a clutch that can't handle the torque. Second issue is the closer ratio of the gears, as it has 6 gears it requires more shifting, and shiftig takes time. The good thing is, that its sequential so that saves a bit of time. I am sure that if the issues are fixed , it will be faster...

Hi mate.. the broken rose joint.. hard to tell exactly what the geometry is like on the arm but looks as though that rose joint is in bending as the shank is not colinear with the arm and therefore the shank is not colinear with the forces?

@@D3Sshooter No problem.. hope you get it sorted. It might be worth your while googling "rod end in bending".. it's a big no no in formula student yet is present on designs as unthinkable as the light car company's rocket.
