If you saw my last video, you know I destroyed 2 drills while making log furniture. So, I went looking for a new, powerful drill. This is not sponsored, I bought the Makita 40v drill with my own money, and in this video, I will do some heavy-duty testing and see if this drill survives!

@@brandondixon4023 I have hands on experience with every single big name brand power tools from the homeowner to the professional line and beyond (beyond = festool). I gotta say, makita never really stood out in anything. If I really had to pick something, I'd say their jackhammer is an absolute beast, but nothing else comes to mind. This is not to say they don't make good tools, because they do. It's a solid, reliable and robust brand, but the thing is, pretty much all the big name brands are. At the end of the day, I think it all boils down to personal preference, or more so what you've been exposed to early on and developed your bias (probably subconsciously).

Yes, this thing is a BEAST. I recently used mine to drill 12mm holes with a HSS drill bit in 6mm tough steel... no problem at ALL. While my old NiMH 14,4V Makita already struggled with 10mm in this steel, the HP001 really went through like... well, as if it was a 6mm piece of WOOD.

The drill did a good job, don't you think? But it still needed some of your muscle though, especially the tenon and 6 inch hole...I guess that is to be expected. What drill do the manufacturers of the tenon cutting bit recommend? Also for cutting holes with a hole saw, I have seen a video where the guy suggests you actually start drilling in reverse, then forward...it seems that the reverse setting at the beginning gives it a better starting bite into the wood so that it does not dance around like it might in forward mode. Tough demo!
@JesperMakes
@JesperMakes 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Juliet, very good tip about starting in reverse with the hole saw. I don't think the tenon cutter producers recommend anything, most guys I watch use corded drills with a lot of power and low rpm, but a russian guy started making these tenons out in the russian forest with the 18v eqivalent of this Makita (in fresh wood - a little easier on the drill) so that's why I went this way. I think it's a very good drill, it's very powerful and it will break your wrist if the bit gets stuck and you don't use the arm on it. The battery life is amazing, I have done normal construction jobs (drilling and screwing in construction lumber) a full day on one battery alone.

The 4ah XGT battery is equivalent to 8ah 18volt battery, both are 144wh. But still impressive, i agree. They use torque sensing to reduce power draw when not needed, for example on a light load at full speed it will automatically draw less power, at variable load this will save huge amounts over a day. At a constant high load the battery will not last longer than on 18v tools.
