Hello, I am thinking of getting a leopard gecko, I have done lots of research and have lots of savings to get quality items for his habitat. However, my parents are divorced so I am at both houses for one week each. My dad is fine with feeding him well I am away, however, I worry that I won’t be able to spend enough time with him. I have been wondering if it would be possible to transport him from house to house, in his habitat or even have 2 habitats with one at each house. I am wondering what you think I can do, I really don’t want to stress him out by switching his habitat/ location, what do you think I can do to raise him as well as possible? And if I am away every other week will I not be able to form a bond with him? My dad lives 40 mins away from my mom so it is a long journey as well. Any help/ advice would be great, thanks!
@dylanmarchand58404 жыл бұрын
D K oh I feel you I have to switch from house to house to but my Leo seemed fine when I left him for a week and my mom fed him when he was younger and I have a pretty strong bond with him now so I think it would be fine just leaving it there but I had to transport him one week to my dads and he was really stressed the whole week so I think it would be better just leaving it away if someone is there to feed it

My mom is terrified of geckos and said she would let me have one as long as she didn’t have to touch it...lol. Well a couple of months later after I saved up some money we went to a reptile store and they helped us buy a tank and the food and they were just wonderful! Well, they said they had one baby Crestie left so we asked if we could see it. My mom was the first one to hold it and she was lik: “omg Elena.... it’s sooo cuutteee! Let’s name it Stevie.” U WOT MATE?? So apparently she loves them now. At least cresties.

Gecko Guy3212 that explains it. Switch to a halogen bulb or Arcadia’s deep heat projector, then he will be much more active. These heat sources are far more natural and beneficial than heat mats. You can put slate underneath for a basking spot. Just be sure to connect it to a thermostat (halogens need a dimming stat such as herpstat), and provide plenty of plant coverage.

At max that mister sounds like a mini lawn mower or power generator.. Also maybe smart tech, I know people can program stuff for smart tech where things can be turned on via voice activated or set duration using a smart plug adapter. Not sure if it would work but would an interesting to experiment.

Hii! I had this question for quite a while now. I was searching for the Arcadia Mix Substrate that you use but where I livr we don’t have any of these. I use coconut fiber for my gecko, Sunny, but I am getting a new tank for her soon and I was thinking about maybe going on natural substrate. I watched your videos about the best and worst substrates and I don’t wanna use a repti carpet or paper towels. Is there a way that I can make a good substrate by myself? I found many people making natural arid substrate and I believe this might be a way to get a good looking substrate for my gecko...so my question is: can I use an arid substrate mix recipe for my gecko? Are there any risks of impaction? Is it safe? Ps: the substrate that I am looking to make is usually made of play sand, top soil, dead leaves and coconut fiber and husk.

Mixing your own substrate is a great option! It’s completely safe as long as your gecko has proper husbandry (hot spot of 92-95, etc.). A mix of 60% organic top soil (Scott’s is a good brand) and 40% playsand is a good option. You can add leaf litter if you want, but you don’t need to. Although if you go bioactive with a cleanup crew, leaf litter will be important. What are you using for heating?
@maduzilla46774 жыл бұрын
Nighting Gale Thank you so much! I am using a ceramic heat lamp (it is not infra red) and a heat mat.
@nightinggale64704 жыл бұрын
Maduzilla I recommend looking into a halogen bulb or Arcadia’s deep heat projector, they’re the most natural and beneficial options by far. They produce infrared a and b like the sun, and allow for deep tissue heating, unlike heat mats and ceramic bulbs. This video does a great job explaining it! kzbin.info/www/bejne/moati2NqqNabrs0

Hey! I've been doing a lot of research into properly taking care of leopard geckos since I intend to get one in a few months, but despite everything I've read and videos I have watched I'm still a little confused about the feeding process. I intend to gut load my feeders but should I still use multivitamins if I do? I am also somewhat confused on whether or not feeders should be dusted with calcium at every feeding. The last thing is I have heard that using a uvb light can eliminate the need to supplement Vitamin D3 every so often but I have heard conflicting opinions on whether or not these lights have adverse effects on the geckos. Sorry for the long post, I just want to make sure I'm doing everything as best I can!

1. Yes, you still need to use multivitamins every third feeding 2. Nope. Dust with calcium every other feeding. Only exception is when using Repashy Calcium Plus (an all in one) which can be used every feeding. Although it has d3 so can’t be used with UVB 3. Yep, when using UVB you need supplements without d3. Linear UVB is extremely beneficial, and won’t harm them as long as you use the right bulb and set it up properly

Well that's really a missed opportunity that they didn't put a timer in. The whole point of a misting system is to not have to do it manually, that would deter me from buying since it misses the point in my opinion. I'd probably spend a little more and get the monsoon multi, one and done.
@leopardgeckotalk4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was a little disappointed when I realised it didn't have a timer on it. I've looked into the monsoon by exo terra but it had quite a few bad reviews, then they took it off the market for a bit, then brought it back.

@leahblanchette12854 жыл бұрын
maybe if you can’t find a timer, you could just put as much water in the tub that you want it to spray, so it will only spray as much water as you put in :)

So, What if I put a Baby Gecko in a 20 gallon tank, Would It be happy and Healthy?
@nightinggale64704 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Just make sure it has enough clutter and coverage. It’s best to upgrade to a 40 gallon or bigger when they’re older.
