Testing the new parry shield in dark and darker video! Ironmace added a lil sneak peek to the test server today with the lantern shield. Pretty fun. They'll definitely need to make adjustments to it to make it actually usable in the live game though for sure.

So the high impact resist makes it harder to parry any weapons that do not have 5 impact power. So it seems like a great counter to barbarians and their heavy weapons that defeat most blocks. looks great addition tbh. I also love that they based it on the real world example of this shield, looks so cool.

I assume the timing is so tight because it's a shield, and shields have naturally high impact resistance, and if the parry works similar to the longsword, the higher the impact value coded on the shield, the smaller the window of opportunity is for actually parrying an attack *(actually doing the counter attack). This is part of the reason the sword mastery perk was changed to movement speed over impact resistance.

Yeah it's solely because of the difference in impact resist vs impact power. The shield has 5 impact resist which is wild as well

It looks cool as hell, and I can't wait to do some awesome sword and board 1v1s. That being said, hopefully this new item being kind of shit due to low impact will have them change how defensive weapons (THAT MEANS LONGSWORD YALL) work. Hopefully they'll go for a set timing period instead.

Yeah looks like they lowered the impact resist to 3. It’ll have same riposte timings for all weapons as longsword does

I am not sure if it is a bug or not but when the lantern is activated the shield has an active block even when not holding it up.

No it doesn’t. Tested it just didn’t include that here since I forgot we tested it while I was quickly throwing the video together lol. Also has its own shield bash animation when using the shield bash skill

Shield bash is a pretty quick upward jab that uses the prongs on the top. Looks nice and is very smooth

while it sucks that you cant use it vs most attacks, i think itd be kinda bonkers if you could parry easily with it, the damage looked pretty high. and as someone said, looks like itll be a good counter vs barbarians due to the impact rating their weapons have. also the "shit uh.. sorry" was hilarious

Yeah I don't think it'll see much use honestly. The damage on the riposte attacks don't deal that much damage compared to the one hand weapons people will use with them and has shorter range. It also has lower base stats than the heater which also has 5 impact resist and larger blocking surface. It's a cool weapon and people will play around using it but it will be middle of the shield pack I think balance wise as is. Not sure they can change much about it without making it the defacto BiS shield tho lol

That's not what I said happened. It is the third time my comment that I assume basically no one saw was added to the game a few weeks later. It also happened with the rebalances to blunt weapons and crossbows that gave them base armor penetration instead of ridiculous base damage. It seems more likely that I am having premonitions than that they are scouring reddit for comments with 3 upvotes and implementing them.

Ok but now it feels like they will have to rework fighter …😂all of his good perks and one of the best metas for fighter is action spd build. With this shield I don’t see the point in running dual wield anything on fighter

Hmm. This thing isn't very good outside having a larger top side hitbox than the heater shield. The riposte is way too difficult to pull off in a real combat situation and doesn't carry enough damage to justify using it instead of the arming sword/falchion you'll use with it. Also, it's a shield and doesn't trigger the duel wield perk or slayer perks, so slayer fighter will still be the absolute king of dps for fighter builds since the slayer/sword mastery weapon damage gets tucked into the heart of the damage equation and receives all the multipliers still. Honestly, unless they increase the riposte window this will just be another stat stick shield but with lower base stats than heater and slightly better upper hitbox protection. Killed quite a few people wise ease that were trying to use it on the test server lol. The riposte timing is absurdly too tight, same issue longsword faces with parrying rapier/daggers/other longsword ripostes

Then we might be dealing with a change in meta. I feel like if it’s anything like longsword tiking we could be in trouble 😭. No it's absolutely too tight. The average reaction time of an mlb player is between 120-220 ms I'm pretty sure. Expecting random gamers to have that kind of timing to use this weapon since that's close to the time it actually has for the riposte is outright insanity lol

Don't worry it's not very good lol. There will be very little reason to use the attacks outside a "wow" factor since the damage isn't much higher than an arming sword hit and is flat out lower than a falchion I think, has less range, and it's not much faster if faster at all

Everything about this is horrible, the test server required to test a shield, a shield with an extendable blade, the timing, infinite block, two combo chain so you can die during so.
