After a while, every damned Tennessee hillbilly working in the zinc mines had a Mora tucked in his overalls.

The traditional Sami knife has a handle generally made from birch. Traditional material for the sheath is reindeer leather/ bone. Different style is available. The Sami people typically use two knives; the smaller called a buiku, puukko or unna niibaš ( "small knife" ); while the larger "Sami knife" is called stuorra niibi ( "big knife" ). An even larger version known as a Väkipuukko is similar to a seax. The sami belt is where the knife is attached. Mora knives is a swedish brand. They do not make Sami knives.I use this Mora knife to easy jobs like carving meat. My knife is green, for hunting stealth. (Mustard is good for desert camo.) Thing is it is light weight and small. If I need a bigger knife I use a bigger knife. Thing is taking a good hike with a big bowie knife for instance ads a lot of weight. In Sweden we are not allowed to wear either knives ore guns at city streets. Yes it is a strange country. .
@darrenlamb56403 жыл бұрын
Its the same in uk. We cant carry knives around in the street. We have to have a legitimate reason for carrying a knife... such as camping or work etc. Personally i like the law this way. There is no good reason why someone would be carrying a knife around town. We already have a huge knife crime problem so we dont need to make it any worse. And if i genuinely do need to have a knife then i can have one. It just seems like common sense to me.

I've loved my Mora Eldris so much that I bought a second one as well. I remember when at one point I stopped and realized I had been using my little Eldris 90% of the time and I hadn't even taken my main Mora Bushcraft out of its sheath during my last 2 outings! With the exception of splitting wood, this little knife does everything I could ever ask for. I rarely find myself needing to use my actual knife to split wood, so I could probably leave my main (or should I just say larger) knife at home and be just fine... I won't do that, but I probably could.

2:10, the reason it doesn't come with a breakaway lanyard is because it comes with instructions on how to tie a slip knot that 'breakaway' when a strong force pulls on it... LOL I use a neck knife most days in summer. I live in Australia and can often be found standing waist deep in water at the beach with a fishing rod in hand. I use the cold steel roach belly to handle any tackle repairs or gut hook incidents. I however use a plastic toggle as a break away on the paracord.

Most dont know: If you plug the sheath on the handle you get a longer grip (or a sheath holder lol)
@ladida51303 жыл бұрын
Another old video I'm responding to. Guess that's what happens when I just find this channel. As someone who _loves_ skeleton knives, I'm pretty sure that any good one will have a way to wrap a nice length of paracord around the handle. It's why a lot of them have notches, tabs, or holes as attachment points along the handle. Build up the layers of cord to a size that comfortable to you, and you can fit a lot more cord on it than on a traditional handle. It also means that in a situation where you absolutely _need_ cordage, you're almost guaranteed to have enough while retaining a usable knife that can quickly and securely be tied to a stick and used as a spear. Well, at least that's how they were made going back about 10 years or so. Some of the newer ones seem to favor design over function.

I honestly bought this knife (didn't come with fire steel or 550 cord) because the blade is short. Just 2" and not crazy "tactical" looking like a lot of other folding knives. My work center (military) actually doesn't allow any blades over 3" in the building. I use this solely in my "urban environment" to open mailing boxes or to put a nice slit in my tv dinners that I have for lunch. That's it...totally practical and inexpensive. It stays in my backpack pocket completely enclosed and clean from any dust and debris. Love it!

I'm actually REALLY glad you mentioned color differences between you and your wife, and how you're turning away from black for everything. I used to buy black or coyote tan for EVERYTHING bc black goes well with civilian clothes and coyote goes with just about every camo. But I've been finding myself buying EDC stuff in more vibrant colors. Mostly because I liked the colors. But what I noticed was that having a blue, purple, or pink knife sheath resulted in fewer people giving me a fuss when I go to more urban areas (Not full urban. But coming from the stix to the suburbs), I get more people who are like "oh, that's neat" instead of "oh, that's a knife". I'm a combat vet. I like to carry tools. But when certain tools are black or coyote, it seems like city folk are more likely to be apprehensive. I had a situation recently where I bought a purple knife sheath with a bass carved into it... and folks I KNOW say "why do you need a knife?" Were going "oh, what's that?". It allowed me to actually talk in a non defensive manner about why I carry my fishing knives. That alone made purple more useful to me than black. Both served their purpose, but one allowed me to actually educate folks about why a fisherman might carry a knife.

I'm a "knife is a tool" person. One of my most used and handy knives is a modified OLFA SVR-2 stainless utility knife . What I did was cut it down at the pocket clip end to 4 1/8" plus a tad long. Then snapped off the stainless blade so only 6 snap-off blades were left. When assembled/closed the tip of the blade is just covered by the frame.(stainless blades don't seem to get as sharp as the carbon steel option, but the knife is in my sweaty, rained on pocket all day, and plenty sharp for everything I do. I touch it up with one of those key chain ceramic sharpeners with 2 grades of abrasion.) Then lightly tapped the tip of the frame to more firmly hold the sides of the blade, but still easy to operate. I also pinched the "pocket clip" a bit tighter. And I have it in my pants pocket with a butane lighter. It never cuts or pokes through the pocket and I have a one hand knife for opening packages, letters, cutting rope, etc. My Swiss Army Champion only comes out of my belt pouch occasionally now.

I dont know about you guys. But i have no freaking clue why people are so exited about these Mora knives. In finland we use them as trash knives and thats the only thing they are good for. The accensories are not suppoused to make any sense.
@Prepare2Prosper7 жыл бұрын
ChronosFIN they are great for the price. most of us use them as backup knives or something we can just throwing a drawer and forget about it till we need it.
@imbe.7 жыл бұрын
Ofchourse. Good quality for the price and been around since forever. But in Finland we just don't think them as awesome and godly as other people think they are. They are just good for that as you described, toss them into the drawer and forget it untill you need it. Twist, cut, split and so on. You can do it with mora and it does not madder if it breaks as they are so dirt cheap. But come on, people should not make a Mora collection, thats just not healthy.
@Foss25067 жыл бұрын
+ChronosFIN you are right but the "knife market" has changed enormously in the last 10 years so the basic qualities given by Mora are noised over by marketing gimmicks (for example Bear Grylls and Gerber) at the cost of everyday practicality so these steady, honest and appropriately priced tools take on an admirable beauty, albeit a simple one.

Hi, two things: 1 - the little strap-hinkey-thing is for securing the knife in the sheath BUT ALSO to attach it to a strap or your belt AND it has a Little hole on the back where you can attach it to a button on your work trousers or other clothes. (Just like most Mora utility knives.) 2 Neck knivies in the old day both in Sapmi and Swedish areas were dominantly used by women. Not saying this to downgrade or anything. Just facts.

I'm using a Sami knife; 8". For me, it's been a good balance between a small knife like this Mora and a Machete -- I can chop firewood with it, and then gut a fish. Hangs from the belt or backpack. I use exacto knives around the home though; keeps things simple.

The break away feature of the lanyard is the knife that hangs off of it. So if you find yourself hanging by your knife noose, simply overcome any overwhelming sense of panic from inadvertently strangling yourself and calmly pull the knife from its sheath and cut that 550 cord off.

I love having a neck knife whilst camping or bushcrafting. When bushcrafting, I do a lot of squatting and sitting, and if you're taking your knife in and out of its sheath a lot whilst in a lot of different positions, then having a neck knife is so handy. I use my Enzo Necker Flat Grind in 12C27 all the time

" There are some little tricks with this knife that didn't get covered. First you can stick the handle in the sheath to extend it. Second that leather piece that holds the knife in the sheath can be put on backwards to get a belt loop. Third some people use the Paracord to get custom sheath positions for example on your knee for diving thats why there is so much of it ". Borrowed text butt spot on.
@168Diplomat2 ай бұрын
I have had mine several years and they do loosen in the sheath so the snap retention is something that you will eventually need. As to being useful they make a great skinner for white tail deer I have skun and quartered about 7-8 now. They are too short to cut steaks well but at the butcher stage we are usually home and using a butcher knife.

Beautiful, I would love to have one on a boat. Small thick blade with full handle gives more utility than maybe anything else you can have on you. Would be great for on a boat, perhaps a little longer serrated blunt blade.

I actually use neck knife (CRKT minimalist), and I live urban area in finland. We have strict laws on these things and you are not allowed to carry knives. So carrying neck knife for EDC is an ideal if you need to use knives daily, but you're not allowed to carry them
@earthknight603 жыл бұрын
Since the lanyard is just a length of cord and it's up to you to tie it however you like it's easy to tie it with a knot that'll break loose if it's under too much strain. Essentially a friction knot tied around the open end. Friction will keep it in place for normal use, but if it gets hung up the free end will pull through the knot. You can adjust how much force it takes for it to pull loose by adjusting the tightness and number of wrappings on the friction knot. This is how I tie my bandannas and it works just fine.

Ehm..... If you read this I have some objections and suggestions .... Don't know if the sami people used neck knifes other than as a jewlery. I seriously doubt they used it during hunt or reindeer works. They usually wear them in their belt. If you use it for carving you usually turn it around and carve towards you. About the lanyard - Well, where would it hung up and like strangle you (I also think wearing your knife around your neck is stupid and uncomfortable)? You can benefit from neck wearing if you are fishing beacuse if you have those water proof boot pants you dont wear a belt and that part of you also may be under water. If I would consider using the knife arround my neck I would change the lanyard arrangement like this: You take a oval piece of leather (you should have saved that black one you threw away) and make two holes in it and let the paracord run through them, narrow fit lets you choose how high up you wear the knife and will also let the lanyard slip out if you get tangled up somewhere. My first thought however was that somebody put that little black plastic thing on the wrong lanyard. I wouldn't use the black extra piece but I would loop the lanyard through the hole of the knife aswell on a long hike.
