Welcome to my first Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries Campaign Playthrough. In this video I will show you the gameplay of a full missions as well as the MechLab where you customize your Battlemechs. Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries is a game about stompy Mech action. You take command of a mercenary company and try to grow your income, salvage Mechs and hire Mechwarriors. The game includes a campaign with a vast storyline.
The gameplay is split in two different parts. On the one hand you will have to manage your resources, hire new crew members, outfit your Mechs and travel through the Inner Sphere star map. But the action starts as soon as you get into the cockpit of your Battlemech yourself to fulfill contracts on the battlefield to earn more C-Bills and progress the story.

The AI is just spamming call outs with TAG. I can almost imagine Glitch's VA from Battletech saying "TAG! You're it!"

I was laughing so hard at your reaction to the TAG...or the "easy button", as I've used it. I had just finished a mission, not 4 minutes before you posted this, where I put the TAG to crazy use. 2 Stalkers, set up as heavy LRM fire support, a mid-range Orion, and myself in a Hunchy, with UAC-5, 2 MPLasers, and a head mounted TAG... The mission was your standard "Hulk Smash", but I spent the majority of it standing almost stock still, just TAGging EVERYONE. I didn't even expend 1/3 of my own ammo, because every mech or tank I TAGged, disappeared in a hail of 120 LRMs. It was pretty damned funny. I swear, that if I can salvage 2 more Catapults (and some more DHSs), I'm going to run through some lower skill missions with nothing but 3 LRM-heavy Catapults, and a TAG-equipped Locust. 😁😄 ALL HAIL THE "EASY BUTTON" LOL-LOCUST!

Yea, assigning the ai's roles, imo, would be crucial in this game. I'm really surprised the developers didn't do that.

Apparently some modders managed to do exactly that. Scouting role, sniping role, brawlers, etc. I'd think honestly making the mechwarrior themselves biased and putting it in their description or as one of the strengths. 9 stats total, with Short, Medium, Long range added? Stat cap climbs to 90 max instead?

Of all games, Gratuitous Space Battles did something with engagement ranges that I'd love to see in MW5. Basically you get slider bars with various ranges for both pilot and weapon engagement ranges for each weapon. You could set how far the ship would try to stay from it's target and then set the maximum range they would use each of their weapons.

The report of a TAGed target is as it should be, every time he TAGs a target so his mates know and can fire. I do not know whether or not you have been a soldier but if you were not. Marking a target is something that has to be reported it is not optional to report, you have to! Personally, I would use such equipment only in COOP game or in my mech with a lot of LRM support mechs in game.

Tag is cool, but I wish the AI wouldn't keep reminding you every time they've tagged someone.

I don't mind it so much, though it can seem a little comical. What I'm concerned about is whether they are still utilizing their full arsenal, or is using tag taking place of them firing another weapon. You know if you could get them to shoot as often as they tag they would kick tail.

Definitely the best weapon. But I hate the lazy effect implementation. The particle, smoke, & heat effect will follow your mouse movement 🤦🏻‍♂️

*BLAM* "Ooh, his leg fell off! Cool!" Love it for crippling mechs and got some nice headshot kills with them too. There's a very good reason my most played mech so far is the Hunchback GI.

TBH I wasn't impressed, massive range but massive heat and inferior damage. The plus is the non-explosive ammo but in return the weapon itself is capable of ammo rack explosions.

one point about the burst fire autocannons I would like to point out is that they aren't nearly as jumpy as they seem at first. If you fire into stone or at the ground so you can see the impacts you'll notice that the actual spread is entirely disconnected from the massive amount of screen wobble.

Haha! 15:28 - I have that problem so often in MW5 compared to MWO. I haven't really realized, what is missing, but I overheat so much in MW5 :) Hey Baradul. Thx so much for all your videos this year, I love and appreciate your work, wish you a Happy New Year! hope to see much more in 2020.

Baradul, that Quickdraw is still much better than all the medium and heavy Mechs you have in your lance (especially that Marauder and Warhammer). A properly set-up IV4 can deal 2000dmg in a mission and it's sooo much fun to pilot.

I personally prefer the maurader with 3 large energy hardpoints. 3 large chem lasers and regular medium lasors and filled to the gills with heatsinks and it just never overheats and works exceptionally well with npc ai .

I'm still of the opinion that the TAG is mostly useless except in co-op. AI just don't fire indirectly, are kind of useless with LRMs as a whole, and try to brawl way too much. Any missiles I give them are always SRMs.

Every once in a while my AI lancemate gets a tag and the other AI in an Archer lands a really good volley from his 15 and 20, both ST + ARTIV. Loads of damage. But it's totally random when they actually work in tandem and I'm coming around to the idea of only using SRMs on AI.

One thing I failed to notice: When the AI is tagging all those Tangos, and stating as such, how do you know which target they tagged? Is it always the Commander's target? The AI's target? Are they just tagging stuff all over the place (hence all the constant radio messages)? Is there an indicator on the HUD that shows if a certain target is currently tagged? If not, there should be

There's an icon to the left of the enemy unit indicater that shows up over the enemy through your HUD. You can see it the first time in battle where it tagged a heli

This an AC-20, the most powerful gun in the inner sphere, and would blow your head clean off, so, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

28:50 About Headshooting someone... AC20 (stock) deal 20 dmg... almost all Mechs in MW5 have a base head armour of 30 (25 minimum)... so... there is no weapon that will crack cockpit in one shot... if you want headshot weapon-group, aim at 30-31 dmg combo :)

Yes, even 50 ton mechs won´t lose their head with an AC 20 shot.

And this is still an issue with the canon damages as well. A shell that is as big as a freaking house just hit a cockpit full bore. Should be a ruined hole where a pilot used to be. Of course any light mech getting hit square with an ac/20 round should be getting pulverized. And if not completely destroyed, at least knocked down.

Headshotting is weird. I can't seem to do headshots at close range, but I did several from 4-500m with dual AC20s. Like this Stalker. RNG? imgur.com/a/EKdhvo1 AC20 is great. Slow projectile, but when it hits, it hurts even at 6-700m. Or demolishes buildings at 1250+.

The more I see of this game the more I realize that this game wasn't so much "pushed" as much as "hurled" out the door too early. Epic wanted it as an exclusive for a while and on the market for Christmas, so corners were completely sheered off. Baradul makes it great fun to watch, but it's still such a shame.

Stablegun i’m pretty sure it actually had an earlier release date before they made the deal with epic. This is just how the developers company is, they have a captive audience and they take advantage.

This game : Spawn enemies anywhere, anytime, sometimes even literally having the dropship dump his load on my mech's foot...LITERALLY ...and when/if you actually manage to finish a mission without too much trouble, a new wave spawns right infront of your extraction point with 3 heavies.

wouldnt it get boring without that? Yeah you cant play like SolidSnake but i have to say ... better like this then PPC/LRM every Target from 1000m getting bored by no Action in the field.

@@MrSoulpolo In a way you are right because of how they made the game work. Thing is, because of the choice they made right now on their spawning mechanic, there is simply no possibility of strategy in the game. Its only about DPSing the most and the fastest the waves. Even if you decide to have lets say 1 LMR heavy as support, there 80% chance that itll get wrecked if you leave it behind a bit by bad spawns that appear behind it. There is no preparation post-mission. You dont know the layout of the map beforehand, you dont really know what youre up against, so its all about building the best DPS mech and hope you wont get screwed. Even when you are sure you cleared everything behind and around you and are ready to move forward, youll get 3 LRM60 spawn behind something you just looked at 5 secs before. Add the fact that there is no radar besides the "minimap" offered which updates only on visuals, AND that the few times the Leopard tells you "enemies incoming" , you don even know if its from the North or West, or at what distance. You are 1000 years in the future with 100t mechs and you cant even tell me which direction they come from? That removes so much fun out of the game for me...

Theres a mod that fixes spawning by making them always spawn a respectable distance from you, highly recommend it!

@@watcherzero5256 tried it when I typed this comment. Helps, but far from enough. And, it doesn't seem to help in demolition missions. The example I gave about enemy dropship landing literally on me was WITH the mod. Anyway, since then I uninstalled it and will simply wait for its Steam release (if ever) so that a real playerbase fixes their game like it was done with Skyrim.

The hero Cyclops with 2x AC20 is just insane! Specially because it's faster that most assault mechs, which increases the fun factor :) For me, it's easily one of the best mechs in game.

Also, I don't think you realised how much credit you had when you said that you didn't want it. You couldn't get it. It was 11 and a half mil, you had two and a half 😆😝 Great suggestions for AI behaviour options at 16:33. And 16:50 that VTOL crash there was SO funny 🤭😂🤣

For this "Forceful negotiations" first mission I got a huge arctic map, instead of the grass one you had. And it was just purely insane for some reason, 10+ Igors, several enemy Stalkers + Quickdraws + Riflemans lances. Seems like the quest missions are a bit random as well.

I don't get some of the reasoning you have. You'd rather keep trying the dual ppc grasshopper that doesn't seem that good but you refuse to use use the rather cheap effective Awesome. You want a assault but you don't want to deal with the slow speed but refuse to use any of the faster Victors. Both mechs would be great at filling in for all these missions where you keep dropping 30-40 tons light. You want to get rid of the Thunderbolt that has been good but want to keep the flimsy rifleman...

Agreed. Build a fast assault lance, Cyclops, Battlemaster x2, Victor, etc. Then build a slow assault lance, Stalker, Atlas x2, Awesome.

I'm at the point where its 360+ ton missions, but I still picked up the Thunderbolt hero, Top Dog. The Thud is still one of my favorite mechs, and the MWO redesign looks amazing to me.

There's sort of a way to set roles, at least one that helps the AI focus more. Don't pair shorter range weapons on mechs you'd like to be snipers. The AI has a bad habit of attempting to get in range to fire ALL their weapons, if they only have long range weapons then they tend to stay at those ranges. M lasers/S laser/SRMs will almost always result in them running up to brawl and costing you a heavy repair bill. Best load outs for AI I've found are load them with 500+m weapons and 2 mechs with a tag T4+, just got my first T6 tag and it's lovely 562.5m range. You do the brawling and they'll melt targets down taking minimal damage.

there is a grand total of 0 standard variants with 30 head armour (the highest is 28 and the lowest is 12 and the most common is 18) and the ai only deploy standard variants but in all these cases 1 AC/20 will not kill in one shot

I put UAC on AI lancemate and he was shooting bursts of 3 then waited for cooldown. Never jammed. Smart

Interesting to see the differences between the boardgame and MW5. An AC20 to the head would kill even an Atlas (20PT damage vs 9 armor and 3 Internals)

Have you ever considered the time/cost of traveling to an industrial hub versus staying in the combat zone? Sometime it seems like the cost and time of traveling back and forth is more expensive than just staying in the combat zone. For me, I look at the added cost in C-Bills and days versus the cost of round-trip travel and find it isn't worth it... at least in the first half of the game when the combat zone penalties are lower.

Here's something interesting: If you visit an industrial hub that has a hero mech for sale that you would like to have, but you can't quite afford the price; go play a mission and come back to that planet. The price on your hero will have gone down, sometimes by several million C-bills. Check it out... :-)

I actually really like the AI TAG reporting. It gives me a heads up if the AI spots an enemy before I do. If I have another AI lancemate with LRMs, I can tell if they are working together effectively

It's kind of logical the AI tells you about the TAG, and it gets spammy because in this game the environment is _waaay too target-rich_ because of all the vehicles. The enemy sends 20 vehicles and mechs and turrets every minute and poor Shen changes target every three secs, especially as you (have to!) explode them promptly.

I prefer the burst auto cannon. It’s a pain to hit fast moving targets but I avoid using it for these targets altogether. Lasers and srm’s are fine for that.

It's never too late to take IV. I don't care if I leave 40 tons on the table, IV is 100% beast all the way through the playthrough.

Tag you aren't it, but it does mean tag the enemy is dead, tag is useful in the hands of a human controlled player, though I recommend a good NARC makes tagging easier, though never combined TAG and NARC together to see how glorious the results will be, don't know if that is possible as I've never tried it. Crab mech with Gauss is good providing one can hit their target as for me I can't hit a broad side of a barn.

Have you realized that if your mech goes directly to cold storage (because your mech bay is full) it is not stripped from equipment and you sold many mechs with equipment?

The only reason it didn't kill was you were just slightly off on your aim you didn't just hit the cockpit you hit the side torso too

For the marauder, a great 'headhunter' configuration is 2 PPC's, 2 small lasers, max jump jets, another 4-6 heat sinks, near-max armor, a rangefinder with +150, plus a TTS with energy targeting bonuses. Gives you solid mobility, solid firepower, and good survivability. The only real downside is you can't spam shots. My 'Command' variant is 4 medium lasers, 1 gausse canon, max jump jets, max armor, plus a comm system to help build morale. It's a terrific headhunter too.

17 minutes in I realized you were just dancing back and forth when you had said you wanted to move fast. Moving fast 20 yards and then back 20 yards is effectively not moving at all.

Is there any reason to put tag in the large slot instead of the medium? I feel like giving up a ppc for a medium is a bad deal.

I hate how MW5 has such limited provisions for the non-offensive systems like TAGs, MASCs, AMS and superchargers. You have to search for ultra rare mech variants in the known universe in order to find a single mech in order to use a very specific mod, or you have to use a weapon slot for certain mods (like the TAG and the NARC). It just seems too limiting and not realistic IMHO. I think PGI needs to change this behavior in the stock game. I think you should be able to load these mods in any slot you want once you have "upgraded" *any* mech with a certain mod (like Internal Structure Level 1). It's bad enough that weapon slots are only keyed for certain types of weapons. So then, we are limited by scarcity, size, type and class . This makes for an almost impossible grind.

Not really, no. When I first saw the LBX/10 slug and read the discription I said to myself, WTF thats an AC/10. An LBX/10 is the spread shot version of the AC/10. So why would a solid slug version of an LBX be made, it's already there as the AC/10. Further why would it have different stats at all? The fact that it does have better stats than the AC/10 means the only reason to use an AC/10 over it is because you don't have an LBX solid. (and they are more rare than the AC). It would be no different than introducing a UAC/5 Slow-Fire version that doesn't have the rapid refire ability of the ultra's but still has better stats then the AC/5.

@@Anubis78250 the LBX is lostech. It was designed as an upgrade over existing AC/10 systems using superior technology which is why it's better.

Yeah the NPC pilots are annoying as hell with a tag. I ended up destroying the Tag arm on the mech that had it mid-mission.

Hang on. Did your lancemate use the TAG or not? It's difficult to tell. I think the game should let you know when your lancemate is using it. Maybe in the next patch...

In the board game there is an official (TRO 3025) MAR variant that uses large lasers and 4 extra heat sinks. And a version that drops the AC.

I have so much tier 2, 3, 4 items but I can't bring myself to equip them to mechs for fear of losing them and I can't bring myself to sell them for C-Bills in case I decide I want to use them when they are gone.

Don’t worry too much about it unless they are rare items like Gauss rifles or ERPPCs that you don’t usually see outside of rare weapon zones or quest rewards. Once you start playing difficulty 75+ missions you will be able to get tons of T3 and T4 standard weapons. My personal rules are that I don’t Like to put T3/4 weapons into the arms of mechs I’m going to have the AI pilot, but I will put them in the torso slots. I will put T3/4 into the arms if it is a mech that I will mostly pilot myself, but I still prefer putting high value weapons in the torso slots first. The AI loves to get its arms shot off in most mechs. So far, the only weapons I don’t have a surplus of T3/4 of are Gauss Rifles, Pulse Lasers, and Artemis SRMs. I probably would be fine on Artemis SRMs as well if I didn’t get the arms blown off my stalker so much on high-level missions!

LRM minimum range is 20% of their optimal. Higher tier LRMs have a longer minimum. Also AC20 singlw slugs work best on arm mounts, not torso. The Atlas torso mount has a poor aiming arc.

@MunroM84 which is just shy of 20% of the 900m range they have on your HUD. Ive noticed as you get higher tiers, the min range increases as their max range does. Something like 190m for tier 2, 210m for tier 3 (these are estimates). I can't say for sure, but a %age base makes sense
