Hey Franki! Awesome content again. I actually find that a hard stone to get on with. Needs constant dressing for polishing and I don’t feel like it gives a very toothy edge when it comes to sharpening. I would recommend it gets sold with a Tomo Nagura…. as in my option needs a constant slurry build up. Specially for beginners. I don’t want this to be perceived as a negative comment as it has its place in my progression for sure. Once you find its happy place it creams up beautifully.

Hey, I totally agree with you. As someone who sharpens much more than I, it is comforting to know my initial assessment of this likely needs a handheld nagura to function properly is on the money. My review was based on a single use which is as telling as well, using it once and having an opinion. Your opinion is well rounded on this stone, so thank you for sharing. Great suggestion to include a handheld nagura with the stone. I'll make sure this information finds its way to Bonsai Boys.

Thanks man. Super glad you enjoyed it! Attractive stone on the eyes, glassy on the fingers, not too expensive for a JNat especially this size. It has its place in someone's toolkit. At this grit is it imperative? No, but what is in life :P

Thank you chef. Really appreciate that. A noob in the sharpening world, but doesn’t mean I should post only what I’m confident in. It gives people confidence to see others learning too.

Oh my, this could get spendy. Cool video, fun to see the variety. Personally, I thought the box looked pretty good.

thanks John! Glad you enjoyed it. Box was nice, the stamped logo could have been sharper was my recommendation and to align logo on box with logo on stone aka top right.

Very good video. I have a question since the topic is sharpening stones. Whats the best tool to flaten my sharpening stones? I have a flatening stone but it cant flaten my 400 grit stone. I scrubed for 2 hours and theres no noticable difference. And i think my flatening stone is not flat also now...😭

Hey man, i am a bladesmith and i use synthetic stones and natural stones for correcting/flattening/polishing/ sharpening the bevels and edges on my knives. I used a coarse flattening stone for a long time but these get uneven after some time and i havent found a good way to flatten my flattening stone 😅 So i changed to an used 'extra coarse' DMT diamond plate (so i guess its just coarse then) where i glued a handle on it for better handling. but i have seen plates like these with handles already attached to them. This also works great on coarse grit stones like the 220 Shapton pro or Naniwa pro 400, but i also use it for any other stone too and it works great!

@kiselakobasica5867 my go to has been the Atoma 140 for flattening. I draw some hatched lines with a pencil on the stone I want polished, throw some water on that same stone, and then move up and down until ALL pencil lines are erased. The Atoma 140 itself will never need flattening so this is a worthy investment.

@@krichbam I see you know your stuff. I guess i have to buy the diamond plate. I heard somewhere you can flatten the flattening stone on somewhat flat concrete outside. I guess you run some risk on chipping the stone but maybe it works. Thank you.

@@KitchenKnifeGuy I will definitely buy it now. I am constantly surprised how much I spend just on sharpening stones. I have to stop, BUT... I have to buy this.

I have a Tsushima black nagura whetstone but not written anything or any name on the stone. Is it original ? Or sometimes they don’t write anything on it?
@KitchenKnifeGuy9 ай бұрын
The one I have, which has ink stamped onto it, is because it was branded that way by Bonsai Boys Trading. 100%, if you have this stone, it doesn't NEED to have anything written on it. I believe I remember seeing this stone purchased by someone else and who did a video on KZbin, and it had no lettering either.
