I just subbed and am looking forward to watching more of your videos. The bay can get choppy. This is a really good review. If I buy one of these, I plan to paddle DE ponds, intra coastal, sounds and bays in FL. 10 lbs sounds very appealing, but stability is important to me. Also, this model seems a bit flimsy. Thanks for taking us to Burton Island. Always a beautiful place to paddle, especially after the tourists are gone. The birds were unkind, lol!

I think to make your choice between the type of kayak you'll have to decide if you value the lightweight or if you want something more heavy duty. I personally prefer the curved hull and the thicker plastic of the regular model. I do really appreciate how for some people they want and need that lightweight option, and this BOTO is perfect for that. I love Burton island. Even in the summer, this is a great escape from the crowds. Oh yea, the birds got us good with poop!

Only 10 pounds? That's so lightweight. Awesome that they sent it to you. These fold up kayaks would be so handy for us now that we have a truck with a smaller bed. We're probably going to have to purchase a rack and bars system to haul our kayaks now 🙄 I have thought about trying blow up. But I dunno. I'm not sure if I would like that it flexes with the waves. That might freak me out. Oh no! Stinks the birds dive-bombed you lol. There are just so many birds. Hmm. Kind of sounds like the heavier ones might be the better way to go. It felt so light I was a little nervous to use it at first, but it was good. I could not believe how the birds squawked at us and then got us real good with poop 😁. The green Tucktec kayaks we own are 27 pounds and for me, they are totally manageable at that weight. I can see the appeal for people who really want ultralight ones and why they might pick the BOTO model. We tend to be tougher on things and kayak in all different types of places. Our kids use these and sometimes we hit rocks, so I feel like the heavy duty ones might hold up better than this lightweight one. I'm going to keep taking it out and using it so I can report back on durability over time. Thanks for watching

Yes, I've also seen other RVers and campers go for inflatable models because they take us less space, but they do get blown in the wind and require drying out after use. I was really surprised at how light this model of the kayak was. Thanks for watching.

Yes, it's a pretty neat innovation. The green kayak my husband was in folds too and it's made by the same company. It's the more heavy duty model which is great because sometimes we hit rocks or bump things when kayaking. Thanks for watching.

Hi Miss HOF I have seen Tucktec Boto kayaks in the FL springs. It seems very portable to take on a long distance trip. Of course, the weight is the factor PPL are favor for. Another factor, sturdiness, well build is essential for me since K7S and I kayak in the wide opened water. We only owns hard shell kayaks and had considered it before. I believe you are kayaking in the calm water still sheltered from the open-sea 3:48 hahah watch out for wildlife heheh A friend of mine in his inflatable kayak was attacked by swans in the UK haha Your honest words about Tucktec Boto are trust-worthy. hahah I did not know your husband is not a fan of kayaking.ha I have seen some PPL modified it for comfort. Is that possible to take heavy cooler box? I am gald you two enjoy a day. Great review, Miss HOF.

Hi, yes if you are kayaking in wide open water like the adventures you and Mr. K7S do, you are smart to go with a hard shelled kayak. If you have the kayak racks, or a large vehicle - you can just do more with those types of kayaks. We have the space limitations. For the green version of the kayak that my husband was using, it has a much bigger hull and you could put a cooler in behind the seat for sure. For the BOTO kayak, you have less room and it doesn't hold as much weight, so it wouldn't work well in that style. We use our folding kayaks in the bay, but in a section where there are small grassy islands to help shelter us a bit. We also have to be mindful of small craft advisories or rough seas. We try to only kayak in the bay with these on calm days. Have a great weekend!

Yes, I think it depends on what type of kayaking you want to do and how much weight you're willing to carry. For some people this could work well. For others, they might prefer a heavier kayak that is made of a thicker plastic. Thanks for commenting.

It really comes down to what you value most in a kayak. For some people, you might really want the most lightweight possible. If you're going to be using the kayak with heavy use then you would probably want the traditional hard plastic model. I own both models and I like them for different situations. I will have another video coming out today at 3pm EST talking about my reasons for buying the Tucktec. On Saturday, I have another video going up where I hike - but then I go kayaking at the end. For that kayaking session, I used the BOTO because I had to carry the kayak a bit far to reach the lake and I wanted it to be light. I have a link in the video description of the paddle and tether I use. If you think of any other questions, feel free to ask.

Often fancied kayaking but never got going. Always looks a fun thing to do but I am generally loaded down with camera and rucksack and fear of capsizing.

Yes, it's very fun. I try to mitigate my fear of tipping by always wearing a life jacket and then I keep my camera gear in a dry bag. It keeps it safe and dry if you ever tip. Of course I do take my camera out when on the water to photograph birds, but then I stow my gear away right after. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for making the review. There are very few on the new Boto model. I've been thinking about buying one to add to my kayak collection. I currently have all inflatables, and I love them. But....10 lbs?? And cheap too? I can envision times that kind of convenience would be nice to have. I've also wanted something to take hiking to remote ponds, possibly on a bicycle or a bus. I'd also like something that I can towel dry and pack up much faster than my inflatables for those times when I only have a half hour or so to spend on the water, so I could go kayaking even more frequently. I'm sure my inflatables are better in many ways. No doubt my Razorlite performs way better, easier to paddle and faster. No doubt safer & more comfortable too. While it inflates very fast, packing it up is slow. And it's 35 lbs, so carrying it further than from the car to the boat launch is out if I want to go hiking with it or carry it several streets or something to get to the water in areas where there may be no parking. I also have inflatables that are a hybrid of a kayak that paddle decent, and can take a half decent 3HP motor and full sail rig, plus a passenger and sometimes 3 of us if the passengers don't mind being squeezed in a bit. This is a very unique kayak. While not something I'd want as my every day kayak, seems like it could be appreciated for those other times. My only concerns would be safety of folding kayaks as they can fill with water and you have to swim back with them, and durability as this is made of thinner material than the usual ones. But at that price point, it could be purchased without having to think it had to last forever.

It sounds like you have a good fleet on different boats for different uses. Yes, there are pros and cons to each type of kayak. I had this BOTO model out again last week and the setup is insanely fast. It can be done in 5 minutes, maybe less and the same for taking it apart. My biggest dislike is the flat bottom. The green Tucktec models we have moved easier because of the curved hull. I can see why this fast setup and easy cleanup and lightweight aspect would be appealing for your situation when you want to do those quick paddling sessions. Let me know if you have any other questions/thoughts and I'll try to respond.

Also, I forgot to address the filling with water situation. I haven't ever had it fill with water, but I have seen some people carry a small manual bilge pump in the kayak. I also always wear my life preserver because reentry would be very difficult since you can't put weight on the sides to hoist yourself back in. I figure if I ever tip, I'd swim back to shore and tow along the kayak while wearing my life preserver. Thankfully that had never happened and my experience is that both of these models are stable.

Totally understand. We all have our own level of comfort and risk we are willing to take. I figure if something happens, I can swim and I have my life jacket on. I'm going to keep putting this lightweight model to the test in the places I usually kayak so I can keep reporting back on durability and performance. Hoping to try it kayaking in the river soon.
