I just discovered your channel this morning and i have watched every car related video on your channel. You are super awesome guy! I myself have volvo 945 D24 N/A 1993, have been working on that recently, it has electrical problem somewhere. Tachometer does not work, speedometer sometimes jumps to random numbers, instrument cluster lights sometimes work and sometimes not, i cleand some of the grounds that i was able to find but the problem is still there :D Looking forwards to new video, Keep up the good work,and cheers from estonia!

Thanks! Well the channel is still very much still in a learning period, but I do appreciate your positive feedback :) Sorry to hear about your electrical problem. But try to inspect the connectors to the instrument cluster, maybe disconnection/reconnecting them again, some contact cleaner maybe?. I'm a little bit unsure of the 940 electrics, but it is probably something simple. Its hard to diagnose a problem remotely, but i hope everything will work out for you 👍 The Volvo 945 on this channel has actually been to Estonia back in 2018, really liked the country :)

As a Low Voltage electrician, and a guy whose absolutely fanatical about wiring ; this video is like watching spicy content but with copper wire and relays. It was such a joy to see this out in the open so to speak and watch the whole thing work like Kinetic art. I am actually quite surprised that I have not seen this in any art installations or some of those lighted LED paintings like they do with paintings of Cities or Bridges where they use Fiber optics and a color wheel. This would make an excellent teaching tool to show kids how these systems work, & give them a strong appreciation of the not only how the flow chart diagrams look like in real life. But also how the different wire gauges work with voltage drop along the Direct Current Path & length of the electrical wires. I also wonder if there ever has been a layout like this done with a CanBus System? That's a lot closer to network cabling using the automotive FireWire or 1394-b automotive implementation of the protocol. I really appreciate how this was laid in a way that physically mimics the real world orientation of the cars electrical system. If Manufactures did this as well, electrical issues inside cars would end up being a whole host easier to diagnose once you see the physical layout and placement of these wires in a car. BRAVO Mr. Backman! Amazing job dude!

Thanks, glad you like it :) Wiring can be fun, especially these days with the aforementioned Can-Bus and smart systems to control every single thing in your car 100 % customizable.

Thanks! My take on wiring is a very split, somedays it can be the just the best stuff to work on, and on another day it can be once worst nightmare 😄 But the satisfaction i get from solving a seemingly complicated electical issue is just the best. I recently had a fault where I diddent get the exepected 5v ref output from a ECU. I started off by checking the fault codes that indicated no com to the module. So i mesured the supply to the module and sure enough it was at Ubat so it should fire up. Checked all of the com wires, grounds and all seemed fine. So by now you start to lean towards a bad module (gets power, but no outputs or com), but it just seemed very unresonable. So after some shooting in the dark trying to find physical damage to the harness I decided to just start over and try to find something that I had missed. So i mesured everything again starting with the connector for the module but this time i diddent get Ubat but something more like 1.6v. So i took the light off my head and put in on the gastank beside me in order to dwell upon the problem and the multimeter shot up to Ubat the instant the light touched the tank. So the problem was in the batterybox on the other side of the vehicle where the supply wire for the module had been rubbing against the frame shorting it out, probably just enough not to trip the fuse. The heat from the contant shorts had disintegrated the wire so that it was barely making a connection. Sure, the multimeter would pick it up sporadically, but the instant you connected the module back up, the current would plummet, leaving the module seemingly dead. That also told me that you shouldent rely solely on a multimeter, at least not on a supply. So its a good idea to put some kind of lightbulb or something to increase the load, simulating a consumer. Or measure while the module or consumer is connected, but in this case that was not an acceptable option due to the layout of the harness and connector. That's a satisfying fault. The worst electical faults usually involves the data links and interferance on those. Most times its just a bunch of bleep blooping an a computer that can help you there.

Bra video.

Hai sir.. If you dont mind.. may i ask you about elec.wiring on my volvo 940 1995. The defected that i facing was, when engine running all electrical component such as wiper, AC blower, signal lamp, front/break light, power window & etc not functioning at all. But if i shutdown the engine and just switched on at the ignition key without running engine, all the components that i mention before is functiong well. I hope you can advices something to me for troubleshooting. Really appreciate. Tq
@BackmansGarage2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a realay issue or maybe something with the ignition lock maybe? I would try to trace it backwards starting with checking the shared supply/ground points of some of those components affected. But it's allways difficult to fault trace something online.
