Kyla Coates is a Doctor of Philosophy candidate in Kinesiology, supervised by Dr. Neil Eves. Kyla’s research focuses on the use of passive heat therapy to improve health and functional capacity in people with chronic disease.
Many clinical populations cannot exercise at a sufficient intensity or for a sufficient duration to acquire the health benefits. It is of interest whether regular footbaths can lower blood pressure, improve blood vessel function and improve exercise tolerance in people with chronic disease similarly to exercise. If successful, passive heat therapy could be used as a replacement or addition to exercise in those who cannot exercise sufficiently.
