even alot of actual PA speakers from good brand companies (cheaper ones though) even use those piezo disk tweeter thingies
@SpaceMountainLarry7 жыл бұрын
what good brand speakers use piezo? no reputable companies I know use them
@TimpBizkit6 жыл бұрын
There are some Bill Fitzmaurice speakers that use an array of about 14 to 20 of them cross firing and in a vertical line to reduce the vertical dispersion. I went for a compression driver though as I had no way to cut them. As single drivers, an Acoustic Solutions SP101 with maximum treble boost was ear splitting although that is probably about the maximum handling as one of them sounded a bit rattly I found later on with lots of treble abuse with distorted rock music. The Motorola CTS piezos were the best back when RS was doing them, and also Maplin had a nice one although at £10 a driver which sounded less bright than the Motorola but quite high fidelity on a pair of aperiodic vintage studio monitors with 10" whizzer cone bass/mid. Still far more output and power handling than those little 2" cone tweeters and will certainly make you hard of hearing in a bedroom or home audio setup. With a crossover it might have handled more power. The Eminence APT80 compression driver has even more high output if used above 3.5 khz. Will take your ears off within its range and also good fidelity. Would recommend in an Acoustic guitar amp.

These drivers are very popular with white van stuff because their super cheap from China. Your woofers I'm betting are 8 ohms, in the 20-30 watt rms range, and judging by the opaque cones someone's basing them off old Sound Design or equivalent vintage speakers. That tweeter is peizo based, nothing wrong with that, Peavy has been doing it for years with some of their speakers and they sound great, you might not even have to run a crossover with it running it in parallel with the woofer should give you decent sound and it won't blow the tweeter up.
@JoshuasRecordings7 жыл бұрын
Interesting. If that is the case, I am going to blow these speakers soon! I run them about 70-150W RMS.
@AdwareWatch17 жыл бұрын
Actually, Translucent cones didn't really always mean cheap. My paradigm mode 7se has translucent woofers and they're quite beefy for their size. It seemed to be a trend with high-end Canadian hifi speakers in the late '70s to early '80s
@JoshuasRecordings7 жыл бұрын
Oh yea, I forgot about those Paradigms. That is probably what they are trying to copy.
@davidewhite697 жыл бұрын
Infinity also went with translucent polypropelene drivers in the early 80s, and they werent cheap. The reason they went for poly was it was far more rigid than doped paper

Matthew Pawlak dreaded foam rot is a sign of cheap speakers and the surround will disintegrate with one single bass drop
@bjtaudio6 жыл бұрын
Its unusual no crossover was used for the woofer and mid, they could at-least put a small capacitor in series with the mid range to limit the power and roll off the bass. Yes the port is not correctly tuned for that driver, the bass will be boomy and awful.

The round horn piezo tweeters are surprisingly good. I had some stereo speakers with them on and they sound pretty nice. The Eminence APT80 bullet tweeters are higher output though.

I have seen the diaphramed piezo type tweeters used in an ultrasonic pest control device we had years ago.

Do you know the size for the midrange speakers? I just bought two of them for $20 basically for the cabinet to build with new drivers and crossover with lol. Honestly it sounds pretty good for 20, but its lacking midrange cus it blown.

I have the same exact speakers in my shed what I use for when I dj and I installed 4 x 12v RGB led strips right behind the woofers so I get a cool effect at night.

There is a trend going on in last couple years rating speakers with an extra 0 on the back of the number.So what the actual power that woofer should have been is 12,8 watts.But home amps stay with the old ratings.So you basically overpowered it like right about 3 times times.

I love my 2 Digital Research loud speakers which look nothing like these. they both have a 12 inch metal cone/sub, 1/4 phone jacks & are both 400w speakers. I figured this was a review on Digital Research that I some how come by.
@adensouliere82377 жыл бұрын
I doubt they're 400 watts. They're another white van brand. I'd be surprised if that 12" woofer can handle 100 watts.

I have some old Samson resound 12hd's they get LOUD asf only rated 250 RMS @ 8 ohms but I did buy them from radioshack when they was in my town before they went out of business got them for $300 they sound descent, if I eq them they sound really good then. never even gotten them to their rated power inside the house it's WAY to loud in my bedroom I reached 130db continuously and I went deaf only was pushing near 50ish watts

White van speakers always seem to have inaccurate specifications. How do scam artists live with themselves? I used to have a big white van speaker that I bought for $5.00 I used it as a beater speaker where I messed around with it and did all sorts of stupid things with it. It was excellent for five dollars but horrible for the price I would have paid for it if I decided to be stupid and buy it from a scammer. The only accurate specs it had was the size of the woofer, midrange driver, and tweeter. Everything else was a big load of crap. The woofer had the same rubbing problem to. The speaker said it was made in the U.S. on the back but when I opened it all of the speakers had a label on the back saying one thing. China. Not all Chinese stuff is bad but these speakers were.

i know, i know, old af video, BUT "tell me that has tuning". i don't think you understood how ports worked when you made the video. even a hole in the box tunes the box (google helmholtz resonator). oh yea, also, ohm's law using impedance doesn't really work with speakers due to them being a reactive load, meaning that the impedance varies with the frequencies being reproduced. needs current and voltage to be accurate, but will give you a decent guesstimate. again, more info for passersby given the age of the video than anything else.
@JoshuasRecordings5 жыл бұрын
Your right. My wording wasn't very good. What was meant by me saying that was "there is no way this port is properly tuned to the driver". Just a little easier to say "tell me that has tuning". But very good comment nonetheless.
