The memories watching these videos takes me way back to Portland Wrestling. Tom Peterson commercials were the best on KPTV 12.

Tom Petersons was the very first business that gave me credit, we bought a 27 " NEC Color TV, and I made 25 dollar payments until I paid it off.

RIP Tom. 33 years later and his voice is still vivid in my memory, used to see his commercials all the time during weekend movies.

He used to walk around his store and say "Hi".He was a class act, and a mainstay of Portland Wrestling(where he did live commercials between matches) watch "Drug Store Cowboy" to see what a great actor (or not) he was...great movie though.

I may be mistaken."My own private Idaho" (another great movie) may be the movie i'm thinking about.

It was Drug Store Cowboy, I believe. Though Idaho was also shot in Portland.

I grew up with KPTV in Portland Or. Tom was like a familiar, favorite uncle who popped by at all hours, but was always upbeat, energetic, welcome, and just plain fun. Sadly, I never got to see Mr Peterson's iconic stores in person. But today I collect and try to drive the market for his memorialbia (sp). And, in studying the man, I have come to an even greater admiration of him. I once thought of him as a bit of a slick, huckster salesman. Nothing could be further from the truth. Mr Peterson was an incredibly hard working, incredibly driven, incredibly honest businessman who stood behind every product he ever sold and went far out of his way to deliver superior customer service. Yet always honoring his wife and family above himself. He was probably the last of a long vanished breed. I believe todays business students and veterans alike could do well by studying the methods of his success. (I've been in contact with his son and feel honored even at that). I even based a spoof character on him (look for Food Stamp Beach Supper Club, if may still be available)

Anybody remember the time one of the Boyd Brothers stormed the Crow's Nest and beat the crap out of Tom with a door they yanked off of one of his dishwashers? It was Portland Wrestling at its most dramatic!

As Tom used to say, it's worth the trip. Since I can't get out to 82nd and Foster and of course Tom's store is not there anymore anyway, I'll just have to dream of getting all this fabulous crap at low prices like in the '80s. But then Don Owen will soon be coming out to announce the next match on Portland Wrestling, always wearing that one Extremely Loud plaid polyester jacket that was apparently the only jacket he owned. I'm going to watch all the matches, although the last one is always a three round match that gets called due to a TV time limit. Then I'm going to head out to Sandy b a r r ' s flea market
