Love these. Such a great look into a strange time for the NFL, with no teams in Cleveland, Houston, or Los Angeles (though LA would have to wait much longer than the first two)-and on a Cleveland station, nonetheless! Mention of the new Browns stadium at 13:24. (As an aside, does anyone remember the Snickers commercial circa 1996 where two oblivious Cleveland fans come into an empty stadium?) Also, this is the first season of the Bucs’ and Broncos’ modern jerseys.

How sick would it be to see the Seahawks with the 90's uniforms and paint on the field with Wilson and today's team? I'm not even a Seahawks fan and that would look fresh! hahaha.

With all that talent, how could the Oakland Raiders have gone 4-12 in 1997? Ah, it's the NFL, I suppose.
@gluserty5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, those Raiders teams of the 1990's usually came to play with a stocked roster, but it seems that in many seasons they just never gelled as a team or just quit as the season went on. I think this Raiders season can be explained a bit though: a lousy, slow defense; poor placekicking (which the Raiders didn't resolve until drafting Sebastian Janikowski in 2000), and a big play offense (which dried up as the season went along) that didn't control the clock. By the end of 1997, they were simply playing out the string.

@JBSptfn For sure, that Raiders teams lost those early games they realistically could've won. Their defense turned out to be really bad though, and once the team lost heart with those losses and their competitive fire waned, it became worse. It's been said a sign of a bad team is one which loses many games it should win, and I feel the 1997 Raiders qualify. Too bad, because on paper they looked good and should've been better; I mean, they gave the Broncos their first loss, and they controlled play throughout that particular game. The team just lacked spark, I guess.

The crazy thing about OAK/NYJ game is that not only did the Raiders outgain the Jets by such a huge margin, they WON the turnover battle (1-0) It's not like the Raiders had fumbles or interceptions, which usually negates big yardage gaps. Cole Ford was simply THAT bad.

He wasn't good in 97 after getting popped in the jaw and missing 3 games
@gluserty4 жыл бұрын
@@johnharris750 Yeah, that's what happened; though there seemed to have been some other issues with Collins at the time (he later admitted to winging it a bit in his early years), I believe the jaw injury threw him off. Mark Brunell, the other QB who piloted a second year franchise into a conference championship game also was injured in the preseason (knee), but his play wasn't affected (maybe he curtailed his dynamic scrambling a bit, but then again I think the 1997 Panthers aged out in a lot of positions and needed a rebuild, while the Jaguars held steady, and Brunell was a more mature player at the time as well).
@johnharris7504 жыл бұрын
@@gluserty I agree with that alot. Collins turned the ball over alot even when they went to the NFC championship game in 96. Beuerlein was better and shouldn't have been a backup

@@johnharris750 Collins went on record (I believe when he had his revival with the Titans in 2008) that even when he was successful in 1996, he had no idea what he was doing (in spite of himself, I guess).
