Tethrd CFX Carbon Predator Platform - Long Term Review

In this weeks video we go over the new in 2023 Tethrd Predator Carbon Platform, Ive had this platform for a while and its time to put out my review, overall its a great platform. Feels very safe, I was worried being that it was carbon that it wouldn't be tough enough to handle my weight but it turns out it's a beast!

@@MichiganGreatOutdoors i have a question for you. i’m sure you prolly did but was the bolt tight and both of the bushings the right orientation. i’ve seen tethrd people saying to tighten bolt and make sure washers haven’t moved causing the play on it side to side. i’m really tempted to try a cfx that’s the only thing keeping me from getting one

I use the cam straps for my platforms and my bottom, double step aider stick and Amsteel for my other 2 or 3 sticks (single aider).

@@MichiganGreatOutdoors My sticks are 3 step and 2 step Hawks. I use the 3 step as my bottom stick. My platforms are a Trophy Line and a Treehopper platform (which I use most often). I leave my sticks stashed/hidden in areas I hunt.. Heart issues, so the less I carry, the better.. And I am in the SE so the deer are tiny and easy to drag HAHAHA And I make sure I am dragging downhill as much as possible LOL

The one ive been waiting for. Thanks for your opinion. The biggest reason i returned mine when it first released was the total lack of downwards leveling adjustment. Im a leaner and always like a nice downwards angle. The CFX runs out of adjustment super quick so if you were to setup in a leaning tree opposite the lean youre screwed. I agree with it being a first gen product. Needs some refinement and sharper teeth.

Great review! My friend bought one and he’s a smaller guy than I am and he says he has the same kind of play in the platform as well. Not sure if it’s because it is carbon or if like you said, it’s the size of the bolt hole. Super excited for this upcoming season!

I appreciate the honest review. The way that it flexs and pivots around that bolt is red flags... When trophyline releases the hyperlite platform, that'll be interesting. If they ever release an Onyx Hyperlite, it'll be game over then.

I will admit, the hyperlight stuff looks and seems amazing so far. Hopefully they got all the bugs nailed out of them for gen 1.

I'm surprised that it's heavier than the original predator. I know it's bigger, but for that price point, i don't think the weight savings are worth the cost.

@Rooster_king well the carbon platform is more sized to the regular predator xl but I don't have an XL in aluminum. Seeing off tethrds website th aluminum one is over 5lbs so apples to apples it's 2 lbs lighter than it's larger brother.

Like the idea but steep price for little more room. I have the hawk helium Tethrd knock off and find it to be plenty of room. Now the Arsenal smaller version for same money you get a better packable package. Or stick with original for half price. I’m also smaller guy at 5’9, 205lbs with size 9 foot. I luv the direction things are goin though with all the innovations in new gear.

I love your reviews! I’ve been looking at the Cruzr mini and was wondering if you’ve had any experience with them? I’ve only seen a few reviews on here but I really liked the looks of it.

Any issues with the post not lining up and fitting in square? After some use the post is off just enough that I have to push it left or right to fall in the space to fold it.

yeah actually, the wedge washers move inside and become off set then the post is off center. I had recorded all of that to add to my video and it was a jumbled mess so I had to cut that portion out of the review.

Carbon fiber is an amazing material and it has it's use cases. It also has things that it is NOT well suited for. The post and tree bracket are NOT one of them. They will have problems. You look at other carbon fiber use cases, like mountain biking for example, everywhere there is a critical joint, like the bottom bracket, there is always aluminum reinforcement.

With the flex that I seen when you were on it seems like you'd be a little bit more comfortable because of the actually flex.Not ridged like the aluminum.. $300 though OUCH!!! You can send it my way since your not keeping it .. LOL😅...

Flex doesn't bother me, just that the teeth seem to constantly get loose and u have to re cam. I'll probably list it for sale soon, shoot me a message if your interested 🤙🤙

Tethrd calls this platform “Carbon”, just like Latitude calls their sticks “Carbon”, but that’s just Marketing hype. This “Carbon” material is just nylon plastic with 33-50% carbon fiber reinforcement. Nothing wrong with fiber-reinforced plastic, if designed correctly of course. But don’t fall for the hype and think you’re getting some “Space Age” Material. I’m impressed that it can hold up to your weight. That rocking around the hole is worrisome though. Injection molded plastic-which is what this is-have what the industry calls “knit lines” around any holes, and they’re points of weakness. A better design would have a larger hole with bosses and gussets on both sides to dissipate the stresses. Small holes concentrate stresses. I’d wait for design 2.0.

What Tethrd did here is what everyone does when they convert a cast aluminum part to an injection molded plastic part: they use the same exact design! Plastic parts need to be designed a bit differently than aluminum, as I’m sure your uncle will confirm.

Awww🤢 all i see is my shins getting peeled like a banana in cold weather when that hinge point snaps off of the platform... Unless they impregnated that area with aluminum reinforcements before the injection mold process took place. But the price point is not for me, so i guess that will never happen.
