Just to update you, ball bearing Rubik's Cubes are completely outdated, they now rely on magnets, which are essentially the same idea, but magnets can also pull layers to an aligned state and are simpler to implement. They additionally have two opposing magnets in the centers replacing the previously widespread springs too, in a Maglev sort of fashion, reducing friction and gaining speed.

umm maglev cubes are not replacing traditional cubes any time soon but yeah most cubes don't use ball bearings, they use springs in a spider core; and magnets in the pieces for alignment

@@_wetmath_ Nah Maglev is pretty common now, rs3m maglev for example is probably really widespread. But it's not replaced springs yet, your right.

@@cube-nite Maglev may be better than springs depending on the turning style. If you have a more aggressive turning style, then maglev is probably the way to go since it's frictionless. Springs are better if you have more lookahead (not the tetris kind) since it's slower but more controllable.

@@TylerSoriano Personally I can't tell any difference whatsoever, I just think it's an upgrade because springs can cause noise and other issues more easily. If it's too fast out of the box you can just adjust it with lube anyways.
