A lot of small businesses especially those with simple payroll will benefit from this simplified app. I will be interested in a version with no limit on entries so I can import old records for longitudinal study. CSV import should be simple but if an import destroys cells with formulas may be a problem. There is little joy in reinventing the wheel so it would be great to know when a commercial version will appear?

Great system. We have a 90 person seniors community group. Can you keep payments from the 'individuals' for fees and 'outings' etc without running out of journal entry space or do you need to bulk entry each time. What are the entry limits at this stage. How do you move from 1 period to the next and keep the detail. Do you copy the Spread sheet then erase the journal entries - can't see this part in my mind. Thankyou for this system. Hi Philip, I just took a look at your video. This is exactly what I was looking for. I am Mortgage broker and Financial Security Advisor in Quebec Canada. I am paying for Quickbooks online and I have to be honest I have it for a year and I still I am not clear on how to use it. I need something simple and I think I can actually use this for my service business. I need to track my income, my expenses, the bills I have to pay and any purchase I have to make relating to my services and I need to track daily and monthly. I am going to give it a try. Try using Excel online. Also, there is no VBA. So Mac should work. It might be that you just have an older version of Excel perhaps?

You do your closing balances which gets you to the closing TB. Open a fresh copy of the file and paste in the closing values of the last month’s TB into the new opening TB.

I am a retrired Accountant so I appreciate your arguments for individual Cash Payments and Receipts going to each GL a/c but enormous effort and duplication could be saved by having a seperate INCOME(RECEIPTS) and EXPENSE (PAYMENTS) schedule and only posting the TOTALS each month to the General Ledger. For all details, you can inspect the seperate JOURNALS. Can your system be set up this way? So instead of posting 100 different payments to the GL each period, you only need to post ONE PAYMENT representing the total of the 100 payments, but of course you may have 10-20 different expense types which get separate debits.

True. It also depends on the teaching method used. If we actually bother to teach students properly, then we will use special journals and subsidiary ledges - but unfortunately most universities just simply skip this altogether. I lent that down of accounting is something that’s all too common at university and trade schools, and somehow students are just supposed to know this magically on the job.

Hi Chris. Give me an email or chat to me on Facebook. So I don't know the Irish tax system as I'm an Aussie accountant, but I'm happy for the system to adapt. In Australia our GST (VAT) is only 10%. It's either 10% or 0%. The education version as you have it is really to teach student's the mechanics of debits and credits. A system that does exactly want will need some modification. It's possible, but I'd have to think about how to implement it. =)

Hey folks. I have had a lot on my plate recently on my personal life. Terminal illness mostly (not me). This project cost me $130 a month to keep the email server going and so I gave up. For the moment, you are limited to the spaces for account that are already there. Yes, this means you can't insert more accounts. Excel isn't a 'real' programming language or database, so there's not way to do this dynamically without VBA. I've steered clear of VBA in the short term because I wanted to avoid overcomplication. So, for now, no you can't add accounts if there isn't already space. Sorry! I'm working on it. =)
