Steven Pressfield wrote for 27 years before publishing his first book, the novel The Legend of Bagger Vance. His relentless pursuit of a writing career led him through a diverse array of experiences. Along the way, he held 21 different jobs in eleven states, embracing roles such as a schoolteacher, tractor-trailer driver, and advertising professional. His stint as a screenwriter in Hollywood allowed him to immerse himself in storytelling from a cinematic perspective, which later influenced his approach to writing novels and non-fiction works, such as Gates of Fire, A Man At Arms, and The War of Art.

SO cool to see you two together. Steven's journey is such a testament to his method. CLearly the resistance took him to all of those jobs in all of those places, ultimately bringing him to the place where he finally got it out. Resilience is the key takeaway - just keep at it. If it's in there, it will come out if you give it a chance.

I started reading for the first time (outside of school) and my first book was that creative act and my third was the war of art, the fact that I just finished WoA today and listening to this podcast is as sentimental as when the avengers assembled back in 2012

I feel such a kinship with Mr. Pressfield, a fellow Muse devotee. It’s quite thrilling to find Her reaching out through another. She came to me quite magically and has delighted my spirit ever since. More of that to come… See also, the White Goddess by Robert Graves.
