Bio For DMC
My Name is Danny Mavor, and I WILL set a world record!!
In 2019, my life was turned upside down when I crushed my C4 vertebrae in a motorcycle accident, leaving me paralysed from the shoulders down. Two years on and I still suffer from chronic neuropathic (nerve) pain, morning, noon, and night.
I was laying in the middle of the road on a sunny afternoon after snapping my neck, fighting to calm myself down to avoid suffocation. Part of my Army training when I was a young lad was to adapt to the situation around you and overcome it, which I believe saved my life that day. I managed to slow my breathing down to only short sharp bursts of oxygen, feeling trapped in my stuffy helmet. Easily the longest ten minutes of my life while I anxiously waited on the ambulance to arrive wondering if I was going to survive.
The moment I woke from my coma in the hospital, unable to breathe and with the aid of a ventilator. Also, unsurprisingly I was in a world of confusion, pain, shock and unable to communicate to anyone, I promised myself I would conquer the hardest challenge of my life and overcome the odds!
Laying on my back for the past two years, I wondered and hoped that one day I would be able to inspire and help someone with a spinal cord life-changing injury.
Now, my life mission is to prove to the world that a disability does not mean inability by setting ambitious challenging goals that I will complete, hopefully sending an inspirational message to everyone and anyone.
Challenge No1 - John o'Groats to Lands End in a battery-powered, chin operated, custom-built, quad chair. This mission historically has never been attempted!
