- 10 minutes to get to top 50 (already longer than average game) - nearly died at 16:00 if i didn't save myself by spamming - everyone sent 12 lines to each other at the end and that was scary - near the end, the size of each attack animation shows how massive the attacks were what a game. not the most aggressive one as i was stalling half of the time, but you don't get to play 18-minutes round that often...

The maximum amount of garbage lines you can have pending on your board at a time is 12. Doremy was stalling his piece drops so he could "bypass" the damage from the other attacks before beginning his counterattack

@@johnbuttler915 you cannot get more than 12 lines of garbage in queue, so attack which was sent to him, added only 1 line, because of there were no more room for that in queue (11 was already here). you can see in top 10 that when garbage queue is empty, all incoming attacks are 12 lines (maximum)

Part of it is practice and knowing where to place pieces by intuition, the other part is finesse. The short version is that you can place any tetrimino with only two directional inputs combined with (optionally) rotating it, sometimes before and sometimes after the movement. If you search for "tetris finesse" the first link should be to the HardDrop wiki article for it.

What’s the point of constantly spinning the pieces in place when your being attack instead of just placing them right away? I’ve seen a lot of other good players do it but I don’t get it. Like at 16:05

gus051 When the yellow garbage line blocks on the left flash red, that means those lines of garbage will be sent once he locks a piece down. Due to there being a max garbage limit of 12, if Doremy is already at 12 garbage lines-in-wait and more lines are sent to him while he’s still stalling, those extra garbage lines are effectively canceled.

Can someone explain stalling to me? I feel like I get sent garbage so quickly, but it seems like doremy can stall for ages and even after a few blocks won't get sent the garbage.

By continually moving and rotating a piece, you can delay it setting. Garbage lines will only appear on your field after you set a piece, and only if that set didn't clear any lines. He was rotating slowly near the end to buy time while his garbage queue filled up, and since it was capping at 12 garbage lines, he prevented any additional lines in the queue by stalling.

It’s pretty much modern Tetris. The only things to learn about it specifically is that you want to maximize the amount of garbage sent per piece placed (basically do t-spins) and how the targeting works. Some people get as high as possible to get people who target kos to attack them, then switch to attackers targeting and send 200 lines of garbage

Once you send lines, you have to rebuild before you can send more. It's more safe and sometimes defensively necessary to stall and receive lines so that you can clear them before they get added to your screen (which would pretty much be an instant ko)
