What really makes Akira animation so good, IMO, is its use of light. The drawing is kinda normal for an anime. The use of light, tho, makes it something else not yet surpassed by normal animes

I think it looks like an evolution of the standard 70s style (Macross/Robotech for example). The big change being much better lighting effects. And of course the surreal plot takes us places Macross never did. Although I guess you could argue that when a movie is groundbreaking like this you should consider it the start of the era it influenced rather than the tail end of the era it was influenced by.

I felt kind of jaded for a while by all the AMV’s out there with music by bands I used to love back when I was an edgy teenager (e.g. Linkin Park) but no longer do and felt like I’d grown out of these kinds of things because I just got tired of seeing the same songs and edits in the search results over and over again, but videos like this remind me that I still like them. Not that edits with nu-metal or stuff like that can’t be good, it’s just not my cup of tea anymore and I tend to lean in a more electronic direction overall now if I watch them. Anyway though, awesome job with this, man! It was a lot of fun to watch and I can tell you worked hard on it. :)

one day the gifs u made popped up randomly and I watched it and thought the secret tunnel thing was funny cuz i am an avatar freak and i checked out what else you had and i then saw this, i had no idea what the band was or what the movie was but i watched it anyway and I LOVED IT the music went with the movie, then I watched the move.... I......LOVED IT AS WELL so now I am an Akira freak and to this day, i am urging my brother to watch akira, they watched this video too because once I found the GIFs I showed them cuz they r avatar freaks. And they loved this too.but they dont want to watch it. one day i caught my little 7 year old brother 11 minutes into the movie.I thought maybe this video is too mature for 7 year olds but then remember he has watched 21 jump street before so i just left him alone, but he never finished the movie. my older brother hasn't even started the movie to this day So that is my story.
