That one quote about the beginning monologue is everything I needed to hear about KH3s validity in the series and now upcoming KH4. I’m so tired of seeing so many opinions about how KH3 shouldn’t exist like other people could write this story better. Everyone who’s ever played KH1 needs to see that quote from Nomura.

Nah. As a fan from the beginning of the cycle of the series. KH3 was such a huge disappointment. There was so much that could have been built upon with the pieces that were left and instead we got whatever 3 was. If you waited for 14 years and an endless string of sequels to be given a half baked game designed to be played by people who have never played the series you would feel the same way.

​@justarandombotipromise I'm with you 100% same with me started with 1 and have played every game released since, kh3 ties up all loose ends in the most fan fiction way possible, honestly the last 2 hours of the game had me just sat there like, really were just gonna tie up everything within an hour at the end of the game after an entire story that had no relevance on anything happening currently, honestly kh3 felt like such a waste of time story wise. Sure the combat got a bit more deep, but everything else was so lackluster. Even the world's bored me, (with the exception of toybox, loved that world but probably biased because i love toy story haha) Hopefully we get a return to form from kh4.

Looking back at it now, the secret ending of KH1 was probably the initial idea of Quadratum which later turned into The World that Never Was. If Nomura planned for the city since the start, that secret ending city MUST be it before a change in plans for KH2.

Kinda makes sense now, that The World That Never Was, the Nobody world, was also in the World of Sleep and that’s why it was in DDD and I guess at some point Quadratum, the universe sora is now in, may have accidentally went to the kh universe but got pushed out and then tried to go back but this somehow created what we see saw as TWTNW and then just fell into it all its mess in kh from what sora battled; meanwhile the real Quadratum created a “video game” or a similar version about it. Trying to go back but could never. And sora may be the key to whatever happen. And we’re about to see this whole universe flip when sora gets back. But that’s just my theory.

Ever since ReMind, MoM, and the KH4 reveal, every time I've watched the KH secret ending, it really feels like it's trying to do what KH3-present did, where Sora is missing and there's a massive cityscape with a bunch of stuff bigger than before is going on. Like so many lines in that ending don't fit CoM or 2.

There’s one reason and one reason only why “Another Side, Another Story” features a trench-coat wearing person doing gravity-defying martial arts in a rainy cityscape…. Nomura liked the Matrix and Dark City. The Matrix was a phenomenon at the time and popularized the concept of “parallel worlds” (or fake reality within reality). So Nomura and Nojima wanted to do something like that and KH was their best opportunity until Versus XIII came along. And ultimately, the “parallel world” idea ended up being DiZ’s Data world and possibly the World That Never Was (which is implied to be the Nobody of worlds’ lost hearts). The main area of the World That Never Was is even called “Dark City.”

I actually like the shonen jump review since the interviewer asked questions more so with questions they usually used to ask mangakas. Basically it focuses questions from a storytelling and character design perspective and since Nomura is first a "character designer" and a concept creative. The questions brought more insightful information from him compared to interview with Nomura in a "game centric interview" where they will usually phrase the questions from a gameplay perspective, game development and what engine do they use.

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s never gonna feel like that. You’ll be chasing that high for the rest of your life and never be satisfied. That’s where nostalgia goes wrong. Don’t expect it to feel exactly like it did when you were a kid playing KH2. Those moments were your formative ones and you are likely old enough now where each individual moment isn’t as powerful. That’s normal. You can’t return home. The world you left doesn’t exist. It’s all been changed. You’ve been changed. That doesn’t mean you can’t find happiness, but you find it not by trying to recreate the past but forging a completely new future.

For me personally, I've found bigger and (imo) better stories than KH that resonate with me more since I'm an adult now. That said, as long as KH includes some of the elements that made me fall in love with it when I was a kid, I'm sure that I'll still very much enjoy the newer stuff, even as I get older.

It probably just means having difficulty differentiating between fantasy and reality; kind of akin to us having dreams while sleeping and them feeling so real. Also, looking back at the KH3 Yozora scenes he mentions his power "I guess... that my powers aren't needed yet" (looks like he also has the power of waking). This would also likely tie back to this idea of "this world is connected".

Talking about the series getting near the end is scary. I remember that Nomura once said if KH will have a new main character then the title numbers will be reset, knowing Disney who started to see how much big is KH now, I wonder if there will be plans for a soft reboot for the series after Noruma's retirement. I am not saying I want it but the possibility is there, I started with the series back in January of 2018, KH has been a huge part of my life since then, if we are near the end, I want it to at least be another trilogy for the lost masters arc.

Some comments and other theory videos ive been seeing lately are saying that, for Sora, Yozora is a part of a fictional game. And for Yozora, Sora is the one part of the fictional game. So it explains why they know each other. But that the Yozora is his game avatar, so thats why he sais the line "I dont always look like this", but that hes stuck that way for some reason. Since Quadratum has been an idea since KH1, I think its possible that The World that Never Was was probably the original Quadratum. And if we take that theory in a farther crazier direction, it’s quite possible that Roxas in the secret ending was Yozora initially. Both secret endings are fascinatingly similar to each other including the music. Any thoughts?

Nomura loved Versus 13's main story that he wrote for it with Stella and everything so much, And disliked how the game came out so much, That he ended the base story of Kingdom hearts (For the most part there's a lot of things that he hasn't said or shown) And now this entire fourth game is literally just 13 versus again but done right. A new player shouldn't ever expect to jump into a series part way and get everything that is happening. It's ridiculous expectation which isn't upheld in any other creative medium but games. Sure, have some sort of optional in-game catch-up. Otherwise, watch a youtube video or play through the previous titles like you'd be expected to with any other story. Besides such, whilst I can see how 1-3 encapsulated the story arc involving Zehanort, how on earth is 4 a refresh/restart? There's a story thread connected starting from Union Cross, going throughout the mainline and side stories, which (at least on the surface) seems to be the story focus going forwards. So in what way is this a refresh? They'd have an easier time making it a "refresh" if they ditched the Disney elements (not that I want them to, just making a point). There's just too much for them to HAVE to rely on for this to be any sort of clean slate. Which actually has me worried, that with this focus on making it so suitable for new players, that it's not actually going to be made for anyone, as has been the case with a number of ongoing series that have been teared down by this sort of "catch all" mentality. The first and simplest of the titles in this series, has often still been called "complicated" despite how it's fine as its own standalone story. So, who is going to be satisfied with watering down the story for newcomers? Cus they're still going to complain about it, they're still going to go off and watch someone else break down the story for them on KZbin. Trying to fulfil everyone's expectations will doom the series to mediocrity.

I hear what you are saying, but the issue isn’t the continuing story, it’s the fact that originally the story was segmented across different titles, with confusing chronology to a layman, across different consoles and handhelds. I know people have access to the compilations but people overestimate just how many people care enough at this point to dive into all this. If the franchise had followed a standard release model and kept the main story to numbered titles, this issue would not be an issue. Unfortunately they still haven’t learned their lesson and the first game of this new saga will be a mobile game that casuals will ignore. I mean it’s great for you and I to say, “Well who cares about the casuals? Just make it for the fans.” Problem is, there are less KH fans, not more. It’s become a niche franchise because of how it’s been handled and to make a game at the quality we expect, it’s gotta bring in more than us. It’s gonna be expensive and it has to be profitable or else we aren’t gonna get more KH

The games were financially successful enough to fund the development of sequels without trying to cast a wide net to try and catch more consumers with the goal of increased profits while simultaneously laying off droves of employees and releasing half finished products. There is a serious issue with the thought process that goes into that logic. I mean realistically if someone didn’t care to play the first few games in your series then it probably wasn’t for them. Resources that could have gone to a game that was a financial powerhouse without trying to be apologetic about its convoluted nature. If we wish to say that games are art then we should treat them like art and not recklessly abandon the original composition simply to appeal to a broader audience. I’ll acknowledge that these are just personal feelings but I still feel that I have a right to point these thoughts out. I want to say I have no ill feelings towards you or anyone. Except maybe a little disappointed in nomura.

I feel like with the information that KH4 and Missing Link are more like a new game or a reboot and the influx of new writers they are clearly bringing in, I feel like its too early to say the end of the saga will be the end of the series, maybe the series as we know it but still. It seems to me when Nomura said he is trying to decide if the story will end first or he will retire first, he's kinda pushing for retirement first. I don't know if I will call this the end of the series just yet but definitely the end of an Era

Personally I loved kh3 I thought it was a perfect wrap up to the xehanort arc. Sora saved everyone and brought everyone back together which by all intents and purposes he shouldn’t have been able to do hence why he had to sacrifice his place in his universe. Now he has to be saved. Absolute perfection

I've seen people talk about Nomura "watching youtube videos to remember the story" and joking about it and how KH is so confusing even its own writer needs to watch a breakdown vid but that's not what it is at all he didn't say he watches them to remember, he says he makes sure the staff does and he enjoys watching them himself its also important to remember that writing a story, and understanding a story, are much different beasts, if you are missing a few details here and there you'll still understand the story fine, but if you're the one writing that story, you need to have every little detail on lock

I would HARE if it went that cop-out route and I'm scared it's going into it. Everything we did in KH and all the joys and sorrows we experienced would be for nothing. Sora and everyone in the magical KH world would be nothing but data, all the characters in KH wouldn't be themselves but their personalities and feelings would be based off the personalities and feelings of real people in Quadratum. Star Ocean 3 went down that route where it turned out our universe and all the games in the previous Star Oceans were nothing but a game created by people in '4D space' that were slaves by their government so the inhabitants of 4D space built the universe called Eternal Sphere to escape into, created characters based off their own selves to rule over and watch due to projectioning their slave life. In the end of Star Ocean 3 after the characters of the Eternal Sphere entered the real world of 4D space, where people live in the sky on floating platforms, they encountered the man named Luther who built the Eternal Sphere and tried to stop Luther from deleting the universe due to the ES characters that gained sentience. It was never explained how the ES characters gained sentience, it was never explained if the characters had real feelings and souls of their own besides being based off the real people's feelings, it was never explained if the characters were deleted at the end or put into a museum in 4D space to continue to exist yet still connected to 4D space as created data and it was never explained if the real 4D people broke away from their oppressive government so they don't have to escape into a video game universe anymore. It was extremely poor story telling when it went down that 'it was all a dream/game' cop-out route. So with Quadratum, did the people of Quadratum create KH universe to escape into due to a boring lifestyle. Despite what Steilizia said about 'this world is full of life', they could lead boring lives in a city. There are no forests or greenery around, no magic except advanced technology. City life is pretty boring so they might have made the KH world to escape into or like in the Toy Box commercial, it looks like they were fighting in a war. So did they build the KH universe to escape a war? I just hope it doesn't go down this route at all and instead it turns out the people of Quadratum just found a magical galaxy far out out in the universe and the magical KH galaxy found a way into their galaxy where they didn't think magic existed or maybe magic was forgotten about in their world so they created technology instead?
